Sibelium in Australia

Hi All. I am in Melbourne, Australia. My Neuro has provided a special TGA approved scrip. for Sibelium. We are supposed to try it on my vestibular migraine for 4 weeks. That was 20 days ago. So far I cannot find a pharmacist to fill the prescription. Do any of our Aussie members know of a chemist in Melbourne metro area who even knows where to start? Been to 14 pharmacies in the Eastern suburbs so far. All a bit bleak as the “S” is my last hope as I have proven to be stubbornly resistant to all previous meds.
My Thanks for your time.

I have been prescribed this medication by my neurologist.

I also live in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

He obtained permission to use this drug as it is not available for general use in Australia.

I took the letter of permission and the prescription to my local pharmacy.

They called the supplier and placed an order for the drug which arrived 2 days latter.

I have received 3 months worth of the drug and have just started taking it.

OP please pm me and I will supply details of the pharmacy for you if you have not yet been able to find one that can help you.

I will report on my progress with this drug after a few weeks as it supposed to be slow acting.

Good luck everyone:)

I know it was back order in Canada for a couple of weeks before it came back in pharmacies. Good luck!

Hi Sidetracked and Midgo,

I also live in Melbourne inner eastern suburb (work in the city) and I’ve also been prescribed Sibelium for vestibular migraine. (Daily migraines for 9 months now so I definitely feel your pain).
I was wondering if you had any success with the Sibelium. How did you go?

My script has not yet come through; the approval request was sent 4 weeks ago by my neurologist and still nothing. But would be great to know which pharmacy can do the order once I get the script. Do any of you have any recommendation for pharmacies in Melbourne? I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.

Please contact Chadstone Pharmacy @ 277 huntingdale Rd, Chadstone.
They can help you with your Sibelium Script. Easy access and quick response time.

Hi there you can get this script filled at the Eye and Ear hospital in Melbourne as most recently I went there to see a neurologist and he prescribed it and I went to the pharmacy there I spoke to the pharmacist he said there are very few places where you can get this drug as it is not approved here only in Canada and maybe the UK I decided not to take it as it is a nasty drug so do your research first. Why did they prescribed this drug to you? Regards angel

Hi,

Prescribed as nothing else worked.

Got special TGA approval to purchase and local chemist was able to get

supply ex south Africa if I recall correctly.

Scrip was only for a three month treatment. Migraine cured after 30

day treatment, no obvious side effects.

That post was three years ago.

Many thanks for the reply to it. Hopefully of use to another sufferer.

And my apologies to other responders. I basically “forgot” I had got onto this site. and have received no email alerts for 3 years until Angelique’s arrived in the Inbox.
After the basic migraine symptoms dissipated (within the month) It took over a year and a half to get my “brain” back. I had the added complication of extreme sleep apnoea, nothing to do with Sybelium.

Regards,

Chris

Hi i think that i was maybe one of the first that was on sibelium . When it just came out they told me the drug was for migraines . And i add to talk 2 pils every night before going to bed for 6 months. They said it biulds a defense wall . That was when i was 18 year’s old. I do have to tell you my migraines they almost killed me , i was getting 3 to 4 a week throwing up stomick asset, having blackout waking up in the hospital. This was really not so much fun for me. When i started with the sibelium about a month later my migraines where getting less harmful. That was great. After the 6 months yes i stop taking them . My life was great no migraines. They did tell me it can be that the migraines will stay away and the possibility that can come back in the future. Yes they are coming back now, after almost 40 years. Now am trying to find a place here in Australia to get the sibelium and be on tjem for 6 months again , i just want a normal life without the migraines.

‘Sibelius’ aka Flunarizine is rather special in many ways. Sold under special licences with strict conditions. In many countries it is banned, in others very restricted availability. If you use the Search facility you will find further general information information. I am U.K. based so no idea of it’s legal status in Australia. The older post above seems to offer you a possible solution. You would of course have to get it prescribed by a specialist either way.
