I had many auras over the last 10 years and, for me, there seems to be no connection between an aura and a major vestibular attack. Here is a list of my auras and vestibular attacks since May:
1.5., 5.5., 6.5.: Aura
13.5.: Major vestibular attack that landed me in hospital for 4 days
3.6., 6.6., 30.6. Aura
26.7. Aura
6.8. Medium vestibular attack. I stayed at home for 3 days, got slowly back to my normal activities after that
24.8. Aura
7.9. Aura
As you can see there is no obvious connection between my auras and my vestibular attacks. I asked my neurologist about a possible connection and she said that the two events can be unconnected. From my own understanding, the two events happen in different parts of the brain.
The aura on 7.9. happened while I was hanging up my washing. I finished the job, then went inside and made myself a cup of green tea. I lay on the sofa of my balcony waiting for the aura to subside while sipping the tea. The aura lasted for about 15-20 minutes and I felt a little bit dizzy and a bit nauseous afterwards. My neck stayed the same, it did not stiffen up.
I would classify this event as a minor aura. This could be due to the pizotifen (I still take 3 times 0.5 mg) or due to my mindset about auras. Before my hospital stay I was very anxious when I got them, thinking that something major (e.g. a brain tumor) might be causing them. After all the tests in the hospital showed that everything was fine, I am more relaxed about them now.
If your body is similar to mine, then you donāt need to worry about them too much.
Ok. Iām also on 1.5mg pizo. I think I stress because they are very unsettling and really quite rare for me, even though Iāve had a million migraines. Whopping headache and feel yuk after this.
Iām a little better. I woke up with no headache but have another cracking one now.
Must be that time of the monthā¦ itās hard to keep track as I have the mirena.
Itās quite strange really. Sometimes migraine without aura, sometimes with aura, sometimes vestibular migraines. I really do wonder why and how it changes so much.
I am having an aura-day today. I went to my strength gym this morning and, after coming home, I had an aura. It stopped after about 15 minutes and I was aura-free for about 10 minutes. Then another aura started, it again lasted for about 15 minutes. Now my eyes are feeling weird.
Is anyone familiar with this? Two auras within a very short time?
I used to get migraine with aura before all this nonsense.
About 6 months ago ut of nowhere had the worst aura migraine of my life. It must have came and went about 5 times during the day. Absolute pounding headache and eventual vomiting (which was actually a huge relief as it stopped it all!) I am convinced my migraines are related to my gut as having decent (fingers crossed) progress with a good diet.
That sounds terrible @MK18 - five times! I was horrified of having two auras, because I usually only have one and I am able to deal with one. I donāt get headaches, but my eyes were really weird yesterday. I am feeling feeling ok this morning, I hope it stays that way.
Checking out the internet in general there seems to be quite few people with this issue around. Only āmedical paperā type reference I noticed was this one.
Great article, thank you @Onandon03. The drawings in Figure 1 represent how my auras usually look like. It is reassuring that multiple auras are not necessarily a bad sign (e.g. that the disease is getting worse).
