Chronic sinus congestion

Hi Guys,

There’s a lady I work with who has had a chronic sinus condition now for YEARS. She always sounds like she’s got a cold. She can’t breathe at night half the time either. She also gets the occasional migraine. She’s been to an ENT and, of course, he cut out chunks of her sinuses and it made no difference apart from destroying her sense of smell (Prof Halmaygyi told me once that ENTs are generally not interested in anything unless they can cut things out). I think her problem could be all migraine. Unfortunately she’s been wasting her time with a naturopath over the last 2 years, who has her on a ridiculous diet and ingesting all sorts of herbs with no effect. Nothing has changed for her apart from weight loss because the naturopath has restricted her diet so much. She is still eating some potential migraine triggers.

Do any of you experience or have you ever experienced chronic sinus problems that cleared up with a migraine med? I know Adam had some sinus stuff going on years ago but wondering if anyone else did/does?

Thanks … Scott 8)

I’m not sure my problems are sinus related, and they haven’t cleared up… But I’ve had a runny nose for years and years, even back when I had a life. Also, ever since I had a cold mid-January this year, I’ve had way too much phlegm coming from somewhere (ranging between every 2 days and 3-4 times a day) and possibly related short-term (1 hour the first time, ~6 the second) pain in my left lung. I’ve been thinking that I might have a chronic respiratory infection like TWAR, but it appears to cause a lot more symptoms than I have.
(Oddly enough, the wikipedia page of the bacteria causing TWAR doesn’t seem to mention chronic infections, but they are a fact - people have this for months and even years.)

Thanks for the input Tran. I had never even heard of TWAR! Have you hit the antibiotics at all? One thing I had chronically before the MAV arrived on the scene was a post nasal drip thing going on. I always had this non-stop need to clear my throat … but now that this MAV junk is in full swing, the throat gunk went away. Adam mentioned to me that years ago, before he’d get a migraine, his nose would run like a tap and then just stop again. This is one weird condition.

The lady at work doesn’t buy the migraine possibility but given she’s tried everything else with no effect, I reckon it’s worth a try. Imagine if all she needs to do is take some Verapamil and might suddenly be able to breathe normally again!

Scott:

I had a Sinus infection for 6 months… I thought it could be Migraine and then once the infection was gone I had the same forhead pressure . However for my sinus issues the best thing I used was a natural Nasal wash 3 times a day called Neil Med. It is a saline wash. Or a Neti pot… Sinuses are like a dungeon so sometimes medications dont get in there. If you constantly wash you clear it up. First signal of a cold i used the Neti pot. I still use it every couple of weeks as it gets rid of allergens etc…

I have had ear popping now for a couple of weeks , do you think that the Neti pot would help with that as perhaps the Eustachian tube is backed up.

I am not sure but it makes sense… I guess justy dont over due it as the ears are sensitive

I have intermittent sinus pressure, and all sinus tests are always fine. My doctors say that the sinus pressure is all part of the migraine. all these symptoms are so strange.
