It seems that most of his patients are on both nort and gaba. Does he always do this? I tried nort, up to 75mg for a few months and it did nothing so i got off it. But it seems that he keeps his patients on a med even if it doesnt seem to help. After tring nort, I tried gaba and it started helping as soon as i reached a therapeutic dose. I am just making sure it was okay to get off nort. I am not a patient of Dr. S but my doc is willing to try out the meds Dr. S uses.
Hi
I’m not sure what his standard protocol is but there are no controlled clinical trials examining dual therapy like this. For this reason some specialists like Baloh at UCLA will not prescribe two at once because side effects become more unpredictable and it may not be warranted. However, there are of course many here on more than one med having great success.
I would not stay on a med if there was no change in symptoms after giving it 3 months. The des you tried is very reasonable.
As always consult your GP about this and make sure you have some professional guidance.

i agree i don’t see the point in staying on nortriptyline. what dose of gabapentin are you on now and how long have you been on it for? how long did it take for you to see results? glad to hear you are doing well!!!
hiya - i am a patient of Dr S (assuming you mean Surenthiran?) and i am only on 1 med at the mo.

I got off the med temporarily for an important drug test for a job, just to have nothing in my system to be safe. I was on it for about 2 months, and I started noticing benefits as soon as I got to 1200-1500mg. I realized a huge change as I was getting off the meds, I felt a lot worse.
ichbindarren - did you get any side effects from the gabapentin? in particular fatigue and lethargy?
Dr S tends to start with one med then add another if it isn’t controlling all your symptoms and sometimes he even adds a third med I think x

I am struggling to get above 100mg per night. It makes me very tired and drunk feeling if I take more. Those who find Gabapentin works for them don’t seem to get side effects from it but I think others find it too sedating to get up to a therapeutic dose.

It took away a lot of the dizziness, although my balance was still not very good yet, but I cant expect to be perfect after I was only at a therapeutic dose for a few weeks.
I took it 3x per day, divided up as evenly as possible.
