Has Prozac helped anyone?

Hi, I have decided to start low at 2.5 mg of Prozac has anyone had any succeess with it?

my neuro said that prozac, zoloft, celexa, lexapro don’t work on MaV - that is just his experience here. I wanted to get celexa and he said i could try it but i would need to get it elsewhere.

he’s giving me cymbalta still and i need to have a long weekend in order to get the nerve to try - i had him call in the 20 mg i wish they had a ten. i guess i could empty out half of the powder in the capsule??

i know a couple people on prozac for depression and they love it.l

The SSRI’s were a disaster for me! But i can only speak for myself. Lots of side effects. I gained about 20 pounds on Prozac…in my opinion it is a god awful drug!

If you should try it i wish you the best of luck!

Joe

Hi
Yes, Prozac has helped some people. All you gave to do is google search “Prozac migraine prevention”… Lots of info out there. If your problem is serotonin deficiency then it should help. Same with any if the ssri’s. The celexa and lexapro are just supposed to be more selective, so less side effects. Kind if like nortrypaline is almost same as amitryptaline, but less side effects. Prozac has super long half life, so easier to discontinue than many other ad’s. You can put Prozac in cranberry juice and titrate mg by mg…
Curious to hear your experience…

I find this incredible Chris. While it is true that there are few studies showing much in terms of migraine prophylaxis in the literature, the same applies for Cymbalta. I don’t understand his rational. If he wanted to start you on some sort of SNRI it should be Effexor, that is if he is relying on clinical trials.

As you know the SSRIs are used for MAV by a number of specialists. Newman in NYC is into Zoloft, Baloh is into Celexa, and Dr. Tusa at Emory in Atlanta uses Paxil as the first choice for MAV. Another member on this board has had great success with Prozac – her name is Violet. She hasn’t been here for a very long time presumably because she is very well:

Well, I’m no expert, but doesn’t this just kinda prove that medication trial is rather a crap shoot at best, even with the best research and results reporting??? After all, even experts and specialists are almost strictly going by the patients’ self-reports. People are so vastly different in their chemical balance, lifestyles, diets, side effects tolerance, etc. that the variability is just about infinite. I know that if I fail in my topamax trial that I’d be inclined to try Prozac which I tolerate extremely well (though it makes me rather emotionally blunted/apathetic but energized). I also must say that I find it bizarre as well that a neurologist could not prescribe an antidepressant other than Cymbalta??? What the heck ???

Chris and Jolivew - I hope you have luck very soon to get the relief that you most certainly deserve!! Go for it!
