Is anyone on a Tricyclic AD And also taking B2?

I ask this because I have been on Imipramine for a little over 3 weeks now and have noticed some significant improvement. Not a ton of improvement, but a noticeable difference indeed. I am new to this site as I was just diagnosed with MAV 4 weeks ago and had never even heard of it. My first neurologist suggested B2 awhile back for migraines but I was convinced I didn’t have migraines because I rarely get headaches. My symptoms are are more of the vertigo symptoms ie 24/7 debilitating dizziness, rocking, nausea, extreme motion intolerance, “grocery isle syndrome” heavy head feeling, can’t drive, fullness in ears but no headache. So once Dr Fife diagnosed me with MAV, I thankfully found this site and have learned that many people are having success with B2 so I started that several days ago. Than I read online that b2 can interact with Tricyclic anti depressants. I really don’t even know what that means but I take it, that it means it may reduce the effectiveness of the meds. I take 75mg of imipramine and 400mg of b2 plus other vitamins.

Does anyone know if this is true. Yesterday and today I have gone just a little backwards and am filled with hopelessness again (a place I don’t want to revisit). I don’t know if I should stop the B2 and see if it makes a difference or just wait and give it time. I have been feeling so hopeful because the meds were working but now I’m feeling blue. I just don’t know if it’s the b2 that caused me to go backwards or if it’s something else. I have stayed away from every possible food trigger and am eating healthier than ever.

In need of help…,

Good morning,

I have not heard of a reaction between a tricyclic and Vit B. I have been taking nortriptyline for about 3 months, in addition I take a B complex, magnesium, and massive vitamin D. I haven’t noticed any problems wih the B complex. I did, however, find that CoQ10 was not for me. Both times I tried to introduce it I had increased disequalibrium. Everyone processes meds, vitamins, etc. differently.
Our symptoms are pretty similar-rocking, imbalance, no headache, store intolerance-and I believe I have seen an improvement on a tricyclic. The fact is, some days are better than others. I have days with imbalance and make myself crazy trying to figure out why:was it food, stress, weather, too much computer time, etc. But, I am much better than I was last fall when this kicked in, and I am thankful that I have doctors who care and really want to help me. If you really think the B made you dizzy, maybe try a lower dose, or take it out for a week and see if it helps.

Stay hopeful! Don’t let a few wobbly days get down, it takes a while for your body to adjust to the meds. I hope you see more improvement during the coming days.

Peace
Jen

Thanks Jen,

You are so right. I think I’ll just lower the amount of B2. I’m not taking any extra D vitamins and noticed you are. Is D a good vitamin for MAV? I’m glad to finally hear of someone else who doesn’t have headaches. I thought I was alone in that one. How long have you been on your medication? Do you have motion intolerance and can you drive. That is my biggest problem is driving. Does that go away. I’m about to post something about that. I really need to get back to my job and the is the biggest hurdle I need to overcome. Of course once I get back, I will be exposed to bright lights and be in front of computer all day.

Anyway, thanks for your response. I really am feeling a good improvement and I only just started my full dose a few days ago so I’m ecstatic about the improvement. Still have a ways to go. I am glad you are feeling better too.

Ditto - am on Nori 75mg and take a crap load of B-Complex stuff.

Thanks Jen. It’s B2 specifically. Not any of the other B’s. Here is the webmd page I’m referring to. Not too overly concerned but I just want to get better and if B2 interferes with medicine that’s supposed to help me. But good to hear none of you are having problems. I’m taking a pretty high dosage of 400mg of B2

HI Mavprincess

I was going to send you a private message to see how you were getting on with the imiprimine but found this post so no need, looks like your doing good.

Im chicken to start mine however, I can drive and live a somewhat normal life so Im trying to get away without meds, BTW like you I don’t get headaches just the vertigo/dizzyness.

I just got back from a run (3 miles light jog) and feel very dizzy right now LOL… Laughing at it seems to help rather than worry about why im dizzy, i did that for a year and it made matters worse. My Neuro recommended I do not do too much strenuous exercise as it can be a trigger, but i gotta do something.

Keep us updated on the imiprimine, you got to 75mg now ? have you any side effects ?

Thanks
