Is this an mav symptom?

Does anyone experience the visualization that the world is shifting left and right, up and down, or in other patterns?? I have a PERFECT gait, and as long as I’m in motion, I do not notice at all that objects are shifting. As soon as I stop and stand still, THEN the motion starts. However, there is always a feeling of slight motion sickness regardless, even though the motion helps this other symptom go away. If I just had the feeling that I was moving, but the world was still, I’d be fairing FAR better. But for me, it’s the opposite. I still get the slight feeling of “imbalance” though, because my eyes tell my brain that I’m moving, so I feel a slight rocking and swaying. But it’s very minor. My worst complaints are the light sensitivity, motion sickness, fullness in both ears (not inner ear related), inability to move my head from left to right or up and down, exercise intolerance, and ESPECIALLY…the sensation that world is constantly shifting left/right, up/down. Anyway, I’m starting to wonder if I am not suffering from BOTH conditions at the same time, even though I have no history of recent travel or voyage. Just trying to pin this down. Wondering if anyone else experience the “world shifting” as I do

I don’t really have my world ‘shifting’ around, but I am definitely better when I’m moving and am constantly nauseous from motion sickness. I can take a drive, and be quite oblivious to motion until I stop and I can get really motion sick. When I get dizzy from time to time, I have to keep refocusing on objects which is only relieved by lying down and trying to sleep it off.

I had exactly every symptom you mentioned above, and 2 years down the track I’m still extremely light sensitive, get motion sick, get fullness in both ears and sometimes ear aches in both ears. I can move my head around much better these days, but I had to visit and occupational therapist for vestibular exercises for dizziness (no problems with my ears though). I am exercising now, but can only do it real slow and work out in the ‘seniors’ circuit class…they look in better shape than me!! The motion sickness is causing me a bit of grief at the moment so I’m back swimming in the pool, doing laps twice a week as that really helped me (wouldn’t recommend you try that until you’ve possibly seen an occupational therapist (mine specialised in dizzy conditions) to help you with the dizzy exercises).

Is your appointment coming up soon with your neurologist??
cheers, Judy

I don’t understand this Judy. How can you still be in just about the same predictiment 2 years later?? Not a lot of improvement at all?? Are you being treated with any medicines or are you trying the natural route? Maybe that has something to do with it?? I find that quite discouraging

I just had my appointment today with my neuro-otologist. He put me on Elavil 25mg so we’ll see. But I’m still going to go to the headache center at Johns Hopkins as soon as they get me in. I’m waiting to hear back from them

Sorry I sound so discouraging  ), with medication, but I have to ‘wait it out’!!! Oh, I also take vitamins B2, Feverfew, Gingerroot & Magnesium. I have tried to adhere to the migraine diet, but am hopeless…I haven’t personally found it incredibly helpful but also haven’t discarded the idea of committing to it again. It’s just, when you suffer from nausea you tend to eat anything to settle your stomach and feel better and any kind of discipline is made very much harder.
best regards Judy

Oh Wow Judy. You can take Feverfew and Ginger root even though you are on those meds? I am too scared to take herbs and drugs together because I don’t know how they interact. I take it that you were told this is ok??

Rich

Rich,
I don’t generally have this exact symptoms. My vertigo spells are short (minutes) and outside of these spells I do not see objects shift. I do frequently have a “sensation” of shifting however, and this definitely gets worse when my motion stops. If I walk across a room and sit down in a chair, immediately after sitting down I’ll feel this shifting, mildly dizzy sensations for a few seconds. Same thing if I’m driving and stop at a stop sign. Its kind of like my vestibular system is hypersensitive and once it’s stimulated by movement it will continue to generarte an “echo signal” to my brain for a few seconds after the movement stops.
