Can anyone direct me to a website or a book where I can get recipe ideas for the migraine diet? It seems like you can get a book about any diet but migraine and I need to put together a menu. So far all I have is what Dr. Bucholz recommends but it is not really much. He just gives sample menu ideas.
Also, does anyone know if cinammon is allowed? I traded in my morning coffee for cinammon/apple herbal tea. I hope it’s okay.
I found a book called “The Migraine Gourmet” by Jerry Rainville.
Hope this helps.

Not to ruin the party, but the only review of the book on amazon says:

I am trying to adhere to an elimination diet in hopes of eliminating my migraines. I am trying to strictly eliminate “all” potential trigger foods. This is very hard to do(due to the sheer number of potential triggers). I purchased this book thinking that the recipes would be helpful. I was wrong. Only a handful of recipes did not contain potential trigger foods. If I was trying to “limit” potential trigger foods, the book would have been useful; but, I’m trying to eliminate “all” possible trigger foods. The book wasn’t what I had hoped for.

The same was said of the other similar book (“Migraine Headaches and the Foods You Eat: 200 Recipes for Relief”) although with multiple reviews saying the exact same thing! Sounds like a waste of time, if all you get is yet another list of triggers.
Here is one of the easiest things I make and it’s great! If you can tolerate tomatoes, add a bunch of fresh tomatoes and top with sun dried tomatoes. If you can tolerate pine nuts - top with roasted pine nuts. If you can tolerate parmesan, top with parmesan - all the better. I stick to the basic, below:
3 T olive oil
2 c chopped shallots
1 1/2 bunch broccoli cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces
1 t. salt
2 or 3 red or yellow peppers
2 c water or veggie broth (i make my own)
2 T flour
6 large cloves garlic
Heat the oil in a deep skillet. Saute the shallots for 10-15 minutes
Add the broccoli and salt and saute another 10 minutes
Add the bell pepper and saute another 5 minutes
Add water/broth and turn up heat to a boil.
Reduce heat and sprinkle flour in, whisking until it dissolves
Stir in garlic
Make 1/2 pound of pasta (I use whole wheat)
It really is easy, fun to make and so good. While one thing is cooking, you can be preparing the next batch of stuff that needs sauteing.
i just took a look backwards, on page 7 of this forum there’s a thread “Diet and Making Eating Enjoyable” where I’ve listed other recipes that you might enjoy, depending on how much cooking you want do to
Julie, thanks for the recipe, yum it sounds good! I think I’ll try that one.
I have mangaged to stick to the migraine diet without any recipes but its getting harder to be creative, especially while feeling confused and disoriented like I am today So I will give the other section a try. Thanks again!
I think this is where our master chef steps in normally ,
But she’s a bit busy at the moment.
When she’s feeling better I’m sure she will be happy to offer some more suggestions.
She was trying earlier this month but didn’t get many interested parties on her posts, maybe we should dedicate a special place for her wonderfully yummy recipes???
i love sharing recipes. Jen’s right, i quite posting them because i could tell nobody was using them. so i quit. it wasn’t until later that i learned that nobody was either well enough, or had enough time, or simply wasn’t interested enough to do that much cooking.
it’s my one bit of luck that i love to cook and that while i’m in the kitchen, playing music, anything from blue grass to Bach, I’m in a state of Zen and there is no dizziness.
