Just curious: is nausea a form of migraine aura? Just on it’s own? The past few days I’ll be feeling fine (no real dizziness, headache) but then towards the afternoon I get a little nauseous. I’m not on any meds (because I’ve been feeling better) but this nausea thing is getting weird. It’s not enough to make me throw up, just very annoying. After it starts then I can get a little dizzy with a very mild headache. Once I eat something I’m better but very curious about this. Anyone else experience this or have any insight? Thanks!
Hi,
I get a semi-queasy feeling off and on, as well, and thus, wonder the exact same thing: if this could be part of the whole migraine mechanism thing. No throwing up and no headache – just that vague queasy feeling and sometimes a little chilly with it. Very frustrating and a little worrisome.
Angela
Thanks Angela, it is strange
I get this too sometimes- a mild headache and a sick feeling but no significant change in dizziness. Nausea is a well-known migraine symptom so i’m guessing it could be a kind of aura in itself. I can only describe it as feeling ‘migrainey’!
Thanks Bella! I’ll just assume it’s another migraine thing…I don’t know how else to explain it or think about it. If I worry too much about it then the anxiety kicks in, then the mild dizzies, then the whole thing just gets worse…etc, etc, etc. It can become an endless vicious cycle if you let it

Hi Dizzybee,
As I reread your post, I am struck, again, by how much this describes me. I’ve been feeling it every day, usually in the afternoon, for the last while. Did yours ever disappear? I am so curious as to whether it is connected to the migraine mechanism, even though I don’t have a bad headache – maybe just very, very mild. No throwing up either. I am a little more unsteady/dizzy today, but that’s nothing new. Sometimes, when I feel it, I also get some vague chills. I just had a full blood test done, and all was fine there. I am going through menopause now; not sure if that’s part of the problem. I’d love an update on whether your nausea continued and whether you’ve had any further insight on it – or if anyone else has.
Thanks,
Angela
Angela, it only lasted for about 5 days but happened at the same time every day, around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Now I’m finally trying Venlafaxine (Effexor) to see if that helps with my lightheaded/dizzy/pressure thing. That’s how my migraines are and they’re almost constant. But the nausea thing left after about 5 days.
Glad that yours has disappeared. I’m pretty good today too. The nausea comes and goes with me, for the most part. This time, I did worry that it was becoming more frequent but, hopefully, it won’t continue in that sort of pattern. I appreciate your getting back to me. Hope the Effexor works for your MAV symptoms.
Angela
Angela, are you taking any meds at this point?
Bridget
Hi Bridget,
I’m on Cipralex 20 mg, for an anxiety disorder and some depression. Also, I take Propranolol LA 80 mg for palpitations, including some tachycardia. The other reason I started this med (it’s been about a month and a half now), is b/c I was hoping it will work as a migraine prophylactic, but so far, no luck. Same thing for Coenzyme Q10, which my neurologist suggested. Unfortunately, I’ve also had to depend on Ativan (too much for my liking) during the last 5 or 6 months in order to help with the unsteadiness, imbalance, etc. I usually take a .5 mg tablet once or twice a day. It bothers me to no end that I have to be on all this medication. Are you on any besides Effexor?
Angela
Not for my migraines. I take a diuretic sporadically for an inner ear thing and sometimes allergy meds but nothing else. I want this Effexor to work but this morning i had the worst dream and woke up in a panic. told myself I wasn’t gonna take the med any more but my friends tell me to keep at it. So, I broke it in half today (I have the non-extended release formula) so we’ll see. I was hoping to have already encountered the side effects by now (I’m only on day 6…lol) but i guess not I hope there’s not more to come. I know what you mean about the meds…I don’t even like taking the ones I take and it’s not that many! I also go to counseling once a week because I think my issue is stress/anxiety related. The therapy is helping for me.

Bridget,
Are you taking the Effexor mainly for anxiety or for migraines? I have lots of experience with SSRI’s and was on an SSNRI (Effexor) once too. You really need to give ample time for these to get into your system before you’ll see benefits, and likewise, for the system to adjust and for side effects to diminish. Are you continuing to take the Effexor or have you stopped? Do you mind me asking what your migraine/MAV symptoms are? What do you do for them if you do not take a med to help? Also, do you drink caffeine?
Thanks,
Angela

I’m taking half a 37.5 Effexor pill for migraine only. Working through the anxiety issues with counseling. My neurologist is trying Effexor because I have also suffered from anxiety. My symptoms are mild compared to others. My main issue has been head pressure and lightheadedness. The lightheadedness causes me to feel dizzy. But, it’s getting better, thankfully. I can go a few days without symptoms. Still trying the Effexor cuz I figure it can’t hurt and the side effects haven’t been too bad (except for that one crazy dream). I’m sleeping better too but waking up feeling a little agitated. I’m hoping that subsides. I’ve also noticed that my hair texture is changing and becoming oily throughout the day. I’m wondering if that’s another side effect??? Is it too soon for that to be the medicine? Been taking it for 9 days now. The side effects are the reason I cut my pills in half (started out taking the whole 37.5 pill). Plus I’ve read online that the dosage of Effexor for my type of migraine is very small. As for caffeine - I stopped drinking caffeinated coffee and I’ve cut out all sodas several months ago, however I do have chocolate every now and then. My neurologist said that for my type of migraine there really are no triggers. I don’t know. Just trying everything I can. Trying to get back in the gym but with working 2 jobs that’s kinda hard
