Newbie and found the Best Doctor in Boston

My husband bought a pair of these after we read an article about how the light from computer screens can affect sleep if you use the computer just before going to bed. Then I found some free software, called f.lux, that you can use to adjust the computer screen so that it looks similar to wearing those glasses. The software is pretty cool and I like it. Hereā€™s the site where you can download it: https://justgetflux.com/

Just installed the f.lux. What a difference it makes. Thanks.

Oh, wow! Glad you like it! It has a lot of features and settings that I havenā€™t really explored. Iā€™m just using the default setting but it really does make it much easier to look at the computer.

Funny enough I was using f.lux before it was cool!
Theyā€™re the reason for ā€œnight shiftā€ on Appleā€™s products. You wonā€™t see f.lux for iOS anymore because they paid the rights or something of that nature.
The amber tint helps big time and also, so glad they added a dark mode to Mojave 10.14 on macOS. Itā€™s much gentler on the eyes like using the themes on here. I have mine set to dark theme.

Yeah, I got f.lux but sometimes LED lighting bothers me as well as my TV, so sometimes the glasses are just easier. :grinning:

Yes, LED lighting is bothering me also. I thought it was suppose to be easy on the eyes but I am realizing that all lighting is a problem. The glasses are a huge help.

Once the MAV gets that hypersensitive, all lights can be problematic. I found LED a real killer anyway. Also some of it must be habituation cos I have no trouble with fluorescents, Iā€™ve lived with them in my kitchen and utility for ever, decades. Backlit scenes and mixed lighting were persistently problematic. I had extreme photophobia for a couple of years. Like the 24/7 dizziness it came on as part of an acute attack, and just forgot to go away. Made any sort of ordinary existence impossible. One ā€˜tipā€™ a VRT therapist gave me was that you need to stay in constant light levels all the time. Mind you she didnā€™t say what planet you needed to be living on to achieve that feat! It certainly isnā€™t Planet Earth. Helen

I just saw Dr. Rauch yesterday at Mass Eye and Ear. He is great and was the last of many I believe. I am going to start the three step program from the book he recommendedā€¦ā€œHeal my headacheā€ā€¦I have not been working since May and it has been a roller coaster ride sinceā€¦literallyā€¦lolā€¦good luck and I hope all is wellšŸ™‚

Doesnā€™t mean a thing to me my friend but I wish you all the best with it. If you have a meaningful diagnosis and a treatment programme you feel might work for you, you may be half ways there. Helen

I could see who it was meant for, rosjane who incidentally is an irregular poster. You will find other posters will chip in with comments. If you want only to talk to her you need to PM her. (Little envelope icon under your Avatar if you are on a computer at least.)

Thank you

Hi Lam29,

Glad you were able to get into see Dr. Rauch. I too saw him and the ā€œHeal My Headacheā€ book was extremely helpful. I still follow the diet as best and pretty much do everything that is suggested. The vertigo has completely stopped. I still have to be careful with car rides. I do fine if I am driving but if I am a passenger and I am driving with someone else it is a nightmare. I wear my glasses in the malls as the lights are definitely a trigger for me. In fact, I need to go back and read the book again so I donā€™t forget what has helped me. I am holding off on medication the best I can until I really need it. How are you doing today?

Okayā€¦a bit blurry vision and some dizziness
Just ordered the book today and I look forward to starting it so I can feel better and return to work. Hopefully it works and hopefully VM is what I have. I only want a more definate answer. It is so frustrating and scary. Just taking a shower today and doing laundry is exhausting. Sound definitely is a trigger for me. OMG driving in a car after 10 minutes is awfulā€¦I find myself gripping the door handle and looking straight forward with fear. I wish to feel normal again someday and I know this is a process but thank God I am in good hands with Dr. Rauch. Hope your well

When you get the book Keep us posted on how you are doing with the diet and
the other helpful suggestions.

@BradT81 Steven Raunch quite an renoun expert I understand. And I am quite the other side of the Pond!

I see Dr. Rauch as well. And went to see his partner Dr. Priesol because I needed someone to look at an MRI.

I was on 15mg Ami and .5 klonopin at night and have been FINE but gained weight and my BP was going up. So I stupidly fiddled with my meds thinking I could get off them. Went from 15mg Ami and .25 klonopin on May 1 and by June 1 was a wreck. I feel like I trashed all my progress. I went up to 20mg Ami on June 1 and am still not back to what I was. Cant travel and actually have nowhere to live at the moment because I canā€™t travel to get to our little summer cottage and our primary home is rented out! So I am living friend to friend, family to family until the meds kick in. But 15mg Ami doesnā€™t work anymore and 20mg doesnā€™t seem to either. Dr. Priesol said to wait 6 weeks and yesterday was that.

SO frustrated. You seem to keep upping the Ami after 2 weeks. Is that when most people think it takes effect?

I suspect youā€™ve replied to me in error. I donā€™t take Amitriptyline.

My doctor, too! Heā€™s great!
