Nytol is one of the few things that helps me get some sleep.

The packet says to take 2 x 25mg tablets at bedtime. I take half of one! It gives me 4 to 5 hours sleep but I have noticed that I wake with a migraine every time.

The ingredients are: diphenhydramine hydrochloride, anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulous, maize starch, stearic acid and silicon dioxide. Anybody notice any nasties in there that could be causing the migraine?

Christine

Christine
Have you tried Doxepin?
There is a new med called Valdoxan…it is a new med, not currently available in the US, but it is in Europe. It is a novel antidepressant that works on melatonin receptors, and also antagonizes the serotonin receptors that cause anxiety, so it’s an anxiolytic as well. I would like to try it when it becomes available…check it out

Brand names: Melitor®, Thymanax®, Valdoxan®
Formula: C15H17NO2
Half life: ~ 2.3 hours
Single unit dose: Unknown
Recommended outpatient dose: 25mg per day [Not Verified]
Maximum outpatient dose: Unknown

Structurally closely related to melatonin, Agomelatine is is comparable to the SSRI antidepressant Paroxetine, a powerful drug, in treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Interestingly, the drug exhibits few if any side effects, including the sexual side effects that usually come with many antidepressants. It also improves the quality of sleep that the patient experiences, without presenting daytime drowsiness. In terms of efficiency in combatting Major Depressive Disorder (MMD), Agomelatine has also been shown to be more effective than the SSRI antidepressant Sertraline. On top of this, the drug also has anxiolytic properties. Agomelatine has been shown to have a more favourable withdrawal process than most other antidepressants.

Valdoxan sounds interesting. Have read up a few reviews and not many side effects. Could not see quite whether it was an SSRI or not. If it is, it probably wont be any good for me, I react badly to the SSRIs. The doxepin sounds OK as its a tricylic, I have been able to tolerate prothiaden in the past, and amitryptiline in small doses.

Shame I didnt know sooner, I was up the back pain clinic yesterday and he was going through “Cymbalta, Lyrica” etc. as meds to help my coccyx and low back nerve pain. I told him I had tried them and couldnt tolerate them. I could have got a prescription for one of the above. As it is he is making an appt for a steroid injection into the top crack of my bum  Really not happy about that.

I defintely want something that helps me sleep. Valdoxan sounds good for that and with no sedating after effects.

Last night, yet again, slept till half 3 then awake all night, it is driving me nuts!
