Go back to all previous entries about my Ritalin and there you have today’s update, except I want to also note that during inclement weather, meaning rising or dropping barometric pressure or sudden cold or hot temperature changes, I’m more prone to experience migraine despite my medication.
The good news is that I can up my meds on those days and do well. The only exception is when, about 2 hours after taking my meds and I went to lay down for a nap (a couple of days ago), I had to focus really hard to keep my ceiling from sliding down my walls.
More good news is that my meds have been working so well that the dizziness, when it comes, actually surprises me. The ceiling thing was definitely a scary surprise. I like my ceilings and walls to stay where they belong. I’m awkward like that.
MJ, I’m new to this site and am not sure how to access your past Ritalin posts. From this post it seems that you’re on Ritalin to help with dizziness. I’ve just been put on it to try to resolve my symptoms of horrible fatigue and “mental fog”. I’ve only been on it a couple weeks and I’ve had too many ups and downs to make a decision on its effectiveness just yet. Anyhow, I’m interested on your history and reasons you’re on Ritalin, and how it’s helping, (or not!). Would you mind reposting some of that info?

I"ve been on Ritalin for 6 weeks, now, and I cannot believe how much better I"ve been feeling. My very worst symptom was exhaustion. It was so prominent that I could scarcely be up for 3 hours before NEEDING to be horizontal. Five hour naps were not uncommon. We’re talking the sleep of the dead. The dizziness was unrelenting and the mental fog was awful. It took a couple of weeks for things to settle down, which I was told I could expect. I recall experiencing enough dizziness that I titrated up to 10 mg BID. After a bit, I leveled out. Even with some headaches and dizziness (which I later discovered were caused by a brewing flu, and an ear infection), my exhaustion was all but gone and I could function at 95%. Since my abx to get rid of my ear infection, I’m at 100%!!! I still wear sunglasses when I go anywhere I know insists on fluorescent lighting. I am still very careful about decibel levels. I avoid MSG, keep to the lower end of the glycemic index and treat myself gently. I address head pain instantly - and when dizziness or brain fog gives tries to have it’s way with me, I have been told I can increase my dose by another 5mg.
Today, I was told that we’ll try to wean me off the Ritalin in 6 months. By then, the neuro expects that I’ll have compensated by then.
I hope that in the end, you’ll experience the same success I’m experiencing.
Thanks so much for your response. It’s great to hear you’ve been 100%!! Awesome. Gives me some hope I will be able to manage a bit better soon! I possibly just need to give the ritalin a longer trial, for it to help me out.
Thanks again
Robbi

I’m now on 20 Mg in the AM, going on my third week–1st week only 10 though. I was actually surprised to have my doctor, an internist who never has discussed possibility of MAV with me, recommend it. It opened up a whole new avenue of hope for me in dealing with my fatigue and concentration problems.

Oh wow! That’s a huge dose. Ritalin isn’t supposed to be a migraine suppressant. It’s for your dizziness, the fatigue and the concentration caused by MAV.
