Usually one ear feels slightly clogged, barely noticeable. I did notice more ringing lately. The other day I got up to use the restroom, by time I was twirling my way back to the couch, I heard static really loudly. I blacked out for a single second, then it returned until the vertigo passed
Well good to have VNG while flared up although I know it wonāt be fun. Maybe ask Dr about VEMP test for possible Menieres. Iāve had all the symptoms of Menieres- tinnitus, hearing loss, dizziness (but not rotational vertigo). My vngs all normal. They wonāt do a vemp- tell me itās migraine.
When my dizzies are at their worst, the only thing that has stopped a cycle was a short course of steroids. Which can help both migraine and inner ear.
They thought I had menieres for years but the audiology test didnāt pick up any hearing loss so they nixed that dx.
Thanks for the tip for Ativan! I just spent a week in the hospital for bilateral pulmonary embolisms. Blood clots formed in both my legs, then traveled into my lungs. Once the blood thinners really got into my system, plus the Ativan, the vertigo disappeared. I was so unsteady they put me in a rehab facility. Everyone there was 50+ years my senior. It was the worst. Once the oxycodone wore off, besides chest & rib pain, I felt okay, my usual baseline. Perhaps the blood clots were causing the vertigo due to lack of oxygen? Thoughts?
Wow that sounds horrible! Why did you form embolisms? Do they know? If not, look into autoimmune? anti phospholipid antibodies?
Try meclizine to see if it helps
They said it was genetic. Which is ironic, because Iād been bedridden for a week and a half before the hospitalization. I think it was a mix of me being sedentary and the fact that my mom gets blood clots. Iāve been bedridden for weeks at a time every year, so why now? Iām glad the clots didnāt do more damage than they did, Iām very grateful to be here. Iāll look into it!
Oh I donāt think any of us would be on here if we didnāt have a genetic predisposition to the Something(s) that cause MAV in the first place. Genetics have allt to answer for! Quite some experience youāve had for sure. Are they inferring all your vertigo problems are linked to blood clots, or havenāt they gone that far yet. Guess they are investigating further. Be a good thing. The human body is designed for motion and a sedentary existence, particularly lying in bed isnāt good for anything (think blood clots, loss of bone mass). and can cause all sorts of problems long-term. Trouble is MAVers often donāt have any other choice which is why the condition needs better recognition and prompter treatment all around. Helen
@Dizzyexplorer yes that is scary! I brought that up because I just went through extensive autoimmune testing, and the anti phospholipid antibodies were part of that testing. Mine was negative, but I knew someone who had lupus, and also had the anti phospholipid antibodies- and she would get blood clots.
