i take a very small dosage of Valium at night if I am feeling uneasy or it I feel my waves, motion intolerance getting bad.

2.5 mg and it has helped me over the last few weeks. i am not taking anything else right now as all of the meds I have tried so far have had really bad side effects on me.

Topimax, Elavil, Lexapro are the ones so far and I guess I am just stubborn because I felt so bad when taking them it was worse that the condition.

So you trialed the elavil? Im about to give it a second go, as my gastritis is pretty much entirely healed. If that was an issue for you Ive found a lot of good “homeremedies”.

What are they? (home remedies) And what dose are you starting at?

Joy:

In response to your question about taking Topamax and Valium (Diazapam), I take that combination. Before taking it, that is before losing my vestibular system to ototoxicity, the only relief I had was migraine relief and that was as a result of the Topamax. In other words, it seems that once I was diagnosed with the ototoxicity and my neurologist started giving me Valium for my vertigo spins, they started to decrease. They are so wonderfully tolerable now. I never thought I would see the day when they were not knocking me off my feet or attacking me slightly at varying degrees. It may very well be due to the Topamax/Valium combination! I take a very low dosage, only 5 mg per day. So, I do not feel like a zombie. I am not as energetic as I was before I was healthy, but it certainly beats the alternative.

Karen: How long have you been on the Valium? I took it for about eight months & it helped with the vertigo for the first six. My vertigo seemed to gradually return, albeit not as bad. That’s when the neurotologist sent me to a neurologist, “someone better equipped to treat migraine.”

Joe: Remind me (in case you’ve already outlined this elsewhere) - what’s your diet like? Are you really careful about eating “right” (aka watching out for food triggers)?

Joy:

I have been taking Valium for vertigo for 19 months now. I honestly think it has been helping me, because recently I decided to lessen the already low dosage and I am feeling a few waves and some imbalance, so that indicated that I probably need to go back up to the original dosage. Or, it may simply be due to the awful weather pattern that is approaching (we are under a storm warning and that can set off my dizziness). I have not had any vertigo spins yet, however, and that is the most important thing.

Sometimes it is a good idea to try it for a longer period of time for reasons similar to the one I mentioned above. There can be other factors that can effect our symptoms, meds or not meds. That is unless you are getting no satisfaction at all, or are experiencing terrible side effects.

Best,

Karen
