Starting Nortriptyline

Well Ive been on Nori for 3 weeks now. I went up to 20mg 1 week ago.

I felt about 50% better around week 2, but I reverted right back to hell and have been there for nearly 1 week. Im getting pretty pissed off about it, and I wonder if going up to 20mg messed me up because I crashed again a few days after going to 20mg?

Darren,
Sorry to hear about your crash. I went up to 15 mg nori two weeks ago. The first week I definitely had imbalance issues, especially with motion. The last week has been better, but I still have a few issues. Primarily: I feel imbalance after driving, not while driving, but when I get out of my truck I am woozy. Also, looking down to read the paper, use my iPad, etc., really sets it off. I am sticking to 15 mg for now. My doc is sending me to get a neck X-ray to see if the dizziness at looking down is from a neck injury. After those results we will reevaluate the meds.

I would be pissed too about a big setback, but I think you might want to stick with the nori for a few more weeks to see if things level off. Good luck!

Peace,

Jen

Jen,

Thanks for the feedback. I am going to see how things are next week before I change anything. FYI: Looking down is killer for me, it has bothered me since this all started. I feel like an old person and Im only in my damn 20s!!!

Darren, that is awful news. I haven’t went up from 10 at all because Im nervous to ruin anything. Feeling 50% better.

Jen, I doubt its your neck. Looking down is a big problem for me, and I have had 2 neck surgeries, last one being last Sept. have had many xray and MRI.
And treated for cervicogenic dizziness. Which made it worse.

Looking down is awful for me too! I’ve been scared to look down for almost a year now as it really brings on the rocking!

Ive been on Nori for 5 weeks, and Im up to 30mg but still feel absolutely aweful. There have been a few days where I felt better, but I dont believe this medication hits seratonin hard enough, so Im switching to an SSRI. My belief is that this whole mess stems from a major anxiety disorder. Before the dizziness started, I would have extreme anxiety 24/7 and a panic attack once a week. And then one day, I had the biggest anxiety meltdown Ive ever had, and I had a horrible panic attack. Later that night, the dizziness started and has been with me ever since. I have never had a headache or migraine symptom in my entire life. So I believe this all stems from anxiety.

Darren, you could be right. Try an SSRI and see how it goes. Paxil hits the serotonin the hardest from what others have said and what I have read online.

Kristina

My GP just prescribed Paxil at 10mg, although I will cut it in half for 5mg if I can.

So are you off the Nort then? Good luck with the Paxil.

K

Good luck with the new med, Darren! Hope it works better than the nortriptyline.

Peace

Jen

Im down to 20mg Nori now, but going to discontinue my Nort on Monday night when I start Paxil.

Ive tried 3 migraine meds now, and have never had migraine symptoms. So Im convinced this is based on anxiety and not migraine, so I bet the SSRI will clean things up well.

Thanks for the well wishes Jen and Kristina!
