Test Results from Neuro-otology - Help please!

Hi there

I wondered if anyone could and would be so kind as to explain the following to me and what they indicate. These are two of my test results:

Stapedial - showed ipsilaterally present and absent contralaterally reflexes

Pure tone audiometry - normal thresholds but with bilateral dips at 2kHz - I was asked if I’d had an accident - I couldn’t recall but had lived beneath a 90db flight path for some years. It was suggested this dip could be genetic and was nothing to worry about.

I hope someone can help make sense of them.

Best wishes.

I can’t tell you about the first one, but I wouldn’t worry about the 2nd one. I have bi-lateral dips at 1K. The ear doctor told me that when you have bilateral dips like that it is almost always genetic and nothing to worry about. They tested my high frequency hearing and it was off the charts. Supposedly if I had actualy physical hearing damage, my high-frequency hearing would have been affected.

This link may help.

If you are having MAV symptoms, any hearing and balance testing is usually a bit off but not in a pattern suggestive of damage to the ears, so I wouldn’t read much into it if your doctor didn’t.
