Beechleaf, was not brave, just had no idea what was wrong with me at the time (the vertigo attacks) never got a diagnosis and figured that if I was dying I might as well do something exciting, mostly the fact that the hunky marines pulled us into their dinghies after we jumped in the water 
How interesting that your vertigo attacks cluster together as well, I wonder if this is common and I wonder why. Do we get a build up of fluid in the ears maybe? I wonder if the cause is something we can prevent. One thing is for sure, once the world starts spinning fast, nothing seems to stop it, just time.
