Visual snow and light sensitivity?

Hey There - I am new to this forum (and recently diagnosed with MAV) - I have had the visual snow for a year and a half now and I’m glad to learn that it is a migraine symptom. I have just started verapamil and I’m hoping that it makes a little bit of a difference with the visual stuff.

BC - I wanted to mention that I do get some of this visual stuff when I close my eyes and am trying to sleep. For me, it’s like little stars of light and sometimes colors. It is worse (more vivid) when I’ve had a stressful day or have driven long distances that day.

Rich - Just wanted to mention that I have had several of the same visual issues you have mentioned. I was prescribed prism glasses about 6 or 8 months ago (I also have vestibular issues) and that really helped tone down some of the constant movement. Don’t know if that’s something you have considered or looked into - but I know for me it added a little bit of a calming effect to the constant movement in my vision.

HI ssdizzy - I hope the verapamil makes a difference. I too get the visual stuff when I close my eyes at night sometimes - do you ever get dreams too if you’ve had a particularly vivid day and you haven’t really had chance to wind down? It’s useful to hear about the prism glasses - you are the first person I have heard from who has benefitted. It seems that you have been treated well and things are going good for you. I hope that’s the case.

BCrelief - yes I also get the visual flashes and lightning disturbances - I always thought that was related to migraines or eyesight as I think I might have had this since before having MAV - it’s difficult to remember though, sorry. I know I’ve mentioned several similar related things to opticians who never seem at all concerned!

Hi All
After considering these descriptions I do get visual snow symptoms (since my earlier post on here). I was looking at a screen projected onto a wall and the brightness was covered in ‘snow’, and it’s there all the time - I think I’m just very used to it being there.

Also people have commented on eyes jumping around which is a really bothersome symptom for me and always has been. I had a really bad weekend recently where I was totally spinning - worst time for a couple of years. Since then my symptoms have been really hard to deal with. On the worse days it’s really hard to concentrate on print, and when I had that really bad weekend I could really hardly bear to read anything - it was really difficult. I didn’t realise this was a MAV thing - I thought this was related to labrynthitis, so this is a real eye opener for me.
Best regards
Tess
