Weaning off nortriptyline - return of MAV :(

Amy, thanks for posting! I too am on Nortrip (75mg) and have gained so much weight! I am typically called skinny, (weighing around 120lb) but now I’m up to 147lb. I’ve never weighed this much, except when I was pregnant! But the nortrip is working so well for me otherwise. I was a basket case this time last year. I am scared of getting off the nortrip and all my symptoms coming back. There never is a good time to start weaning. At the same time, I’m also scared that I’ll have to increase the nortip in time, and therefore increase the weight gain… if that’s possible? And scared that the nortrip will stop working eventually. In otherwords, I’m just plain scared to feel crappy again. I have my life back and I don’t want to lose it. Are you on anything else? And are you still feeling ok?

Hi Kim! I am doing pretty well right now and I am just taking Vit D, magnesium and a B complex every day. I have a bottle of effexor that I am hanging onto in case things go bad, but I am hoping to stay med free. I am more symptomatic than I was on the nortriptyline, but nothing that I can’t handle. So far it has just been a little motion sickness, imbalance and nausea, and that seems to be going away as my body adjusts. The mini-spins have stayed away thank goodness. I have gone through substantial periods of remission and I hope that I am heading into one of those now.

The weight gain sucks, eh? It’s weird to feel so much better and have there be such a drawback. I too was called skinny before I started on this…those were the days  I am now on an excercise plan to try to get my metabolism back in shape. I would not have traded nortrip for the world though, it gave me my life back. I was a mess before I went on it also.

Good health to you and continued symptom free days!!
