As far as the migraine diet is concerned, what is the consensus on pizza? I have read various things about whether or not mozzarella cheese is bad for migraine or not. I know that some docs advise against fresh breads and all dairy, but is that necessary?
I have been on the diet for a little over 5 weeks now and cheated for the first time with pizza last night. I asked them to hold the cheese so it just had sauce & veggies and almost immediately, it increased my dizziness. Although I honestly believe it was actually the red roasted peppers that caused my reaction because of the vinegar they were most likely soaking in. It could have been the fresh risen yeast dough though.
I’m not sure on the cheese/dairy aspect, I tend to avoid it because I have been lactose intolerant since birth really as well as IBS. As for the pizza, I did notice when I ordered (always cheese free) some places were better than others, in terms of how I felt after. I looked online for all the ingredients for the dough, sauce etc. I noticed that the place that affected me the least had the least to no preservatives in each part of the Pizza. Even the bacon topping that they used was more of the fresh bacon chunks rather than the bacon bit topping most places use. Same goes when I’ve gone to the more gourmet pizza restaurants, less to no effect. My conclusion was that for me personally it was the ‘fresher’ the pizza the better it would actually be for me. I now have figured out what I can order without feeling sick after (besides my stomach sometimes when I overeat because of my digestion issues
).
