Hi Nick,
I get a good night’s rest, try to eat healthy and work out 3-5 times a week. I take a cocktail of medications that has gotten me to a very good place. I try to make peace with it and avoid things that stress me out. Other than that,
I just get to living my life…
Are you recently diagnosed?
Kelley
I avoid alcohol, get up at about the same time every day, and try to eat regularly.
I took pizotifen and propranolol for about a year, although since my symptoms are under much better control I’ve cut out the pizotifen.
When things go to the dogs (like they have this past week) I have to turn to the Big V (Valium) when the sh*t hits the fan - otherwise my brain will blow up.

Have you tried Klonopin yet? That stuff is AMAZING and works great for an intense vertigo attack!!! Knocks you the phuck out right away when you take the full dose too.
Kelley - Zoloft is working pretty good actually! I was REALLY dizzy when I first started, but I decided to wait it out. I had three good days, right before I started Propanolol so I know Zoloft is having a small impact on me!
I had a real migraine yesterday and I have no idea if the Propanolol aggrevated it. I started that medicine on Sunday and so far it’s making me REALLY tired…

I wish I could get my hands on that stuff - but I feel I would be HOOKED in no time and eat them like Smarties… my consultant has an issue with the occasional use of Valium so there is no way he’s going to give me Klon!!!
Number one for me is pregabalin. This gets me to a stable baseline. Then it’s: regular sleep, regular meals, regular gym, refuse to get stressed, get out in the sunshine as often as possible, read a good book, watch Desperate Housewives…
Only seem to need the klonopin just before or during my period now. Pregabalin has a similar calming effect on me so avoiding stress is easier, although I do relapse occasionally but it’s usually short lived.
Currently on 20mg of prozac and 67.5 mg of topamax, increasing to 75 mg tomorrow. I’ve been slowly working up to 100 mg and per my neurologist should have been there by now, but I have gone more slowly because it made me more dizzy at first. It definitely seems to be helping things though.
The plan is to see if the topamax helps enough so I can come off the prozac, since it is too stimulating and is causing an increase in headache activity, although it did help with dizziness. By too stimulating I mean that it makes me feel wired and jittery and I have a hard time focusing, almost like I need an ativan to calm things down. If I need a serotonin tweak, we’ll try zoloft next.
If I’m having a rough time with the dizziness (not enough sleep or not eating well) then .25 mg of ativan will usually help a great deal. I have only had to take it two days since starting the topamax, which is a huge improvement for me. I was taking it 3-5 days a week.
Not really. I’ve never had weight gain as a side effect of meds. However I have increased my exercise levels and have a feeling I’m eating less on the migraine diet. So by rights I should be losing weight but I’m not.
I’m on 300 mg daily so a reasonably high dose. The only side effects I’ve noticed are dry mouth, waking up at 5am every morning, possibly a blurring of my vision (I need to get my eyes tested again), more energy (which is obviously a plus), word-finding problems (not good for a speech and language therapist) and I’ve noticed my hands shake a bit.
One thing I noticed immediately was feeling less tired.
I don’t get on an airplane built by someone who has no understanding of aeroneutical engineering but who prayed really hard that she would assemble all the bits in such a way as to allow it to get off the ground (and stay off), nor piloted by a woman who’s never taken a lesson but who had faith that she would know how to fly the plane. In the same way I don’t manage my health based on faith, but on evidence.
Otherwise we’d only be half way there, whoa-oh, livin’ on a prayer, take my hand, we’ll make it I swear!

Did I miss something with copying Vic’s post into this thread?
I’d have to say that swimming is still my best source of relief. Challenging when my head’s awhirl, but if I’m able to carry one, I leave feeling clear-headed and pretty healthy. After that is barbiturates, but certainly not something to take on a steady basis.
my daily supplementation of maxalife omega 3 fish oil capsules worked. it somehow alleviated symptoms and lessened attacks.
anyone else took fish oil and helped?
