Unfortunately, my GP is starting to give up on me now, as it’s been 11 and a half months with no improvement. I’ve tried physio, a migraine diet, lots of medication and a range of vitamins. My ENT doctor has finally referred me to a neurologist, but my appointment isn’t until February. In the mean time, my GP has said that medicine isn’t the answer and has recommended that I try acupuncture and massage… Any thoughts?
Oh no! From earlier posts Louise it sounded like Ami was helping?
Imho ear trouble is not cured or treated by these drugs but they help you cope whilst the ear trouble settles down.
I found psychotherapy really helpful at the beginning (relaxation therapy, CBT and mindfulness) but my symptoms became too overwhelming.
However it’s amazing how much I felt better on only 20mg of Ami.
Have you been through the entire spectrum of medicines?
See the flowchart here:
NB: in the UK you may need a referral to a Psychiatrist to get an SSRI
I know of two people who got better within 3 years only using exercise and gym and no meds.
Louise don’t give up in only 11 months! You’re on the right track by seeing a neurologist. As James said, the meds take time, and they are not a cure all. It appears from success stories that many get better after three years or so. Please remain hopeful! I suggest magnesium and Vitamin B2 supplements in the meantime as well as staying hydrated! Yoga and exercise too!
The Ami was helping until I went back on the pill to try and stop my hormones from affecting the dizziness, but it ended up making things worse and I wasn’t able to return to work. I feel like I’m back at square one, so I’ll be coming off the pill tomorrow. The flowchart is really interesting, thank you! I’ve only tried the first 4 medications, so it’s reassuring that I’ve still got some to try
I’ll have to start doing some exercise at home, as I feel too anxious to go out by myself again
Thank you for the encouragement, Lee! I’ve had a rather rough week, feeling like I’ll never recover, so it’s great to have your support. I can’t believe that it can take 3 years; it’d be interesting to know how people cope financially, as my sick pay stops next month! I take vitamin b2 and magnesium supplements every day, but do no yoga or exercise, so that’s definitely the next step!
