Hi all,
Im on 10mg of Nortriptyline. I have been taking it for 26 days when I bumped up to 15. It has only been 2 days since I have bumped it up, but
I feel dizzier. Just not right. I feel I was doing 50 to 65% better. I had my days or moments, but def. felt better to.
I bumped up because I got a bad headache and extra dizziness due to the girly thing. Maybe the timing wasn’t right and maybe this extra dizziness is not all Nort related. Im bummed and confused.
Thinking of going back down to 10mg. But if I cant get better or titrate up. Thinking of trying AMI. I know its the same but yet different, and its SE are supposed to be worse, but thinking its more potent to, so maybe the lower dose will not give me any SE like 10mg of nort but be more potent to give me at least 65% but get me thru the monthly thing.
Im also getting mirena tomorrow. Birth Control IUD. Progesterone only. Heard it can help, or at least do nothing to MAV.
Kristina,
My advise is to def. stay on Nortiptyline. If you are feeling that much better I would not switch. Get thorough your cycle and see how you feel. Also, I advise you to proceed with extreme caution regarding mirena. I had it in for about 2 weeks and all hell broke lose. My mother is convinced mirena started all my MAV problems. I had insomnia for a week, I had panic attack after panic attack, headache after headache. I know there are tons of women that use it and are fine but please for me read some of the sites about it. I usually don’t voice such a strong opinion but mirena was such a nightmare for me. Possibly one of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made. I got it out 2 weeks after having it put in but the symptoms lasted for months. Before mirena I didn’t have ANY of those symptoms.
But then again… years ago I had the Depo shot which is like 400 something, and Mirena is 20mcg or mg or something progesterone based, so hopefully I will be okay. I had like 4 shots of the depo and was fine, when everyone else I knew did horrible.
The way the med is dispursed into the body, your body is supposed to go back to normal right after its taken out.
Hmm… any chance you had this right after pregnancy?
Thanks and wish me luck,
K
I will stay on the nort and go back to 10 and see what happens.
You could not pay me over a million dollars to go back on mirena. I feel that strongly. I will add that I’ve never done well with BC pills in general. Mirena was just a thousand times worse. You would think you go right back to normal but you don’t and there are tons of other women that can testify to that. However, there are tons and tons of women that do just fine on it.
I had my second baby in July 2010, got mirena in Dec 2010 and MAV started in March 2011.
I would advise you to stay on 15mg of Nori if you can tolerate the increase in dizziness. But know that it will probably last between 7-14 days. Some experts anticipate an increase in symptoms when titrating Nori. The temporary increase makes no positive or negative conclusions about the future efficacy of this medication. You might ask your doctor for a benzodiazapene to help you feel a little better during the times of increased dizziness.
You are correct that Nori has less intense side effects of Ami. But it would be worth a try if you find nori to be unacceptable in the long term.
Im getting Mirena today, so I went back to 10mg so I can determine if I do get dizzy, if its the Mirena coil or the Nort.
If after a month Im okay with Mirena I will bump back up to 15mg and take a benzo with it. That sounds good Darren. Thx. Not sure why I didn’t think of that. lol
I also want to see how Mirena does when a “month” hits and if I continue in the pattern I have had the last two months.
Elisha, Im going to cross my fingers. My gut tells me I can handle it. Ive always been fine on every BC I tried. After researching the mirena and hormones, Mirena probably hit you hard due to the recent birth and the fact that estrogen is really high during pregnancy, then 6 months later mirena. I read that mirena can decrease estrogen, so yours was decreasing due to birth then 6 months later decreased more… ?? But then again Migraines come from estrogen dominance. lol… who knows???
I guess Im to the point that well… who cares. Im not scared of SE any more. Dealt with this for 9 months. I need BC so might as well do it now when Im not close to 100% so that way if/when I am 100% I wont be afraid to get BC. If it hurts me, well at least it hurt me when I was already down and I know.
Just got back from the doc. Mirena inserted. EASIER than I thought. Doing well!
I just need to make it thru 1 week. If I can do that SE free then I should be in the clear!
Going back down to 10mg of Nort. I feel better all ready. Not sure if its because its one more day PAST the monthly or what.
But I def. slept better just by going back to 10mg.
Hoping for a miracle, maybe the combo of Mirena and 10 Nort will be my cure or close to cure.
Hi Elisha,
Well even though I have tolerated every birth control out there, including the hard to tolerate Depo Provera,
Mirena I believe is responsible for my headaches lately. Im not a big headache person, but one week after I got the Mirena
(got it on thurs, started having headaches 1 week later on Friday) I have had a headache 5 out of 6 days.
How soon after did your headache start? Sometimes mine is bad, other days its mild. But there! How soon after you got
it out did your headaches go away? Maybe for those who have a weak vestibular system we just cant handle of this.
Im calling tomorrow to get it out. I dont think its the nort.
