Hi everyone. Me again!! Just a quickie, have just been prescribed amoxocillin 500mg for tonsillitis by the out of hrs Dr. This was all done over the phone, I did ask him if it was ok to take with my MAV. He didn’t seem to know!!
Dr Silver told me to avoid painkillers of any sort. Do you think antibiotics will be ok to take??!!

You won’t know until you try it how it will affect you. I took amoxicilan for 2.5 months for suspected lyme disease and it didn’t affect my MAV whatsoever. I tried doxycycline first though and that did make my vertigo worse- so it is a trial and error thing. I also took another antibiotic- ceftriaxone- thorugh an IV- and it didnt affect my MAV at all either.
FYI- I also take aleve on a regular basis and it has no affect on my mav. my neuro told me if was fine to take it as far as mav goes- but you won’t know until you try it.
I’ve taken Amoxicillin and it didn’t cause any extra MAV symptoms at all. Unusual for me! I think you’ll be OK, but then we’re all different in our reactions. But for me personally, no problem. Hope it does the trick and you feel better soon. x
If you have tonsillitis Kathy this is probably why your symptoms of MAV have ramped up recently. Anything like that can affect the dizziness. As long as the antibiotics you have been prescribed don’t have any specific adverse interactions with the other meds you take then I am sure there is no problem. The painkiller ban from Dr Silver is just to avoid rebound migraine so that won’t apply with the antibiotics.

Thank you all for responding. I really appreciate it. I woke up with a bit of a sore throat this morning and now I am feeling pretty rough! Thinking about it, I suppose the infection could have kicked off a few days ago which would explain the dizziness and tiredness. I hope things improve as my throat does.

Hi I’ve been taking amoxicillin for the past 4 days no difference to my mav just more dizzy because I have glands the size of golf balls & more tired , drained etc.
There must be loads of tonsilillitus around xx
Hi Anna, I have started the amoxocillin and don’t seem to be any worse. I am hoping that as soon as this infection has cleared up I will be feeling steady again!
