Barometric Pressure High or Low or Either?

Hi- just putting a question out to the community. Does High or Low Barometric pressure make you dizzier, or is it either way? I always find discussions online of low pressure causing migraines, but not so much high pressure, which is typically associated with good weather. Today the pressure in Richmond VA is 30.67, which seems pretty darn high. I am floating around on marshmallow feet and my head is a rocking & rolling dingy boat. Can barely look down at my phone also. Just curious… thanks!

It’s now up to 30.82 inches. I don’t recall ever noticing it being that high before.

From my own personal observation - I find that a swift drop or increase in pressure causes me problems!..although it seems to me to be worse when pressure drops or remains very low! I’m in South Africa, where we have been having several weeks of heatwave conditions country-wide. Nov 18th, I woke up with that total deafness/pressure with accompanying slight dizziness and lack of balance… by the time I got to the audiologist a week later it was on the mend. (thankfully, she did adjust my hearing aid programmes to give me a little more - if not necessarily better hearing) I was thrilled, as the last bout of this phenomenon lasted 6 months. 3 days ago it went out again…along with unstable pressure up and down…today is incredibly hot, with temps in the sun over 50 deg.Celcius (102 f), but the pressure has dropped dramatically towards a highest forecast of 20c for tomorrow! Hoping it will settle soon and I’ll get hearing back again! (Just to note that I am primarily a Meniere’s sufferer of over 50 years, with MAV having appeared in the last 8 years or so…)

I also notice that a sudden change, in either direction, brings an increase in VM symptoms - not headache, for me, but everything else!

I’ve not been able to detect a direct correlation between VM symptoms and barometric pressure changes – I’ve tried tracking it without success. But I do seem sensitive to sudden, significant weather changes so barometric pressure might be part of that. I can’t say for sure, though because so often for me onset of symptoms are completely random with no obvious triggers.

Wow, those are big weather fluctuations where you live! And hot!! The pressure is finally dropping here, but with that occurrence I am still really dizzy, wobbly and slightly nauseous. So, will be very glad when/if it stabilizes soon. It’s been awhile since I’ve been so affected like this, so the anxiety is returning along with it. Appreciate you sharing your experience! 50 years is a very long time to deal with this stuff. I’m at a decade myself.

Same, not head pain, but all the other head stuff!

I’m blaming it on the barometric pressure, but who truly knows, right? I always try to find a reason or something to blame cause it makes me feel better (haha) but it might also be totally random!

I have to add that apart from losing all hearing in my original ear around 40 years ago, I did experience plenty of ‘remission’ time, sometimes years at a stretch, until it all returned around 8 years ago…now it is all more low key, but far more constant! It seems that every person has a slightly different path! It is only ‘recently’ that I’ve come upon the correlation between pressure and symptoms…still won’t entirely rule out coincidence!! Hoping you soon get past your rocking and rolling, I think a lot of us can sympathize!

Sorry to hear your discomfort, Kier! Some friends swear by earplugs made by Weather-Ex or Weather-X (not sure) they found online. I have not tried them so no personal recommendation here, just sharing info.

I should have said that these earplugs are designed for barometric pressure changes.

yes! Thank you, i have just ordered some. Will let you know how they work out!!

Thanks! Yes, I’ve had a really good past year and thought maybe i had conquered the beast. But, I also subscribe to the bucket theory, so perhaps I may have finally reached the top of the bucket and its starting to spill over the sides. Time to back up and look at diet, other contributing factors as well. As they say, once a migraineur, always a migraineur!
