Hi All
Any of you that are, or have, used benzo.s found that you have built up a tolerance? I have been on 2mg of Xanax for about 10 years without any problems but lately I have noticed that it doesn’t seem to be working quite so well. I am quite worried about having to come off it due to the horrid withdrawal symptoms one hears about and because it is the only med. that has given me any quality of life. I am trialling Topamax 50 mg at the moment.
Is it possible to shift from one benzo to another, say Klonopin, and it will still work to calm things down? Or is it likely that the Benzo’s wont work for me anymore?
all benzos hit same benzo receptors…so it’s the half life that really makes a difference. Try switching over to Klonopin or Valium, and the longer half life is usually better tolerated.
Hi , I’ve just sucesfully gone off of Valium for the same reason, I took it slow VERY slow, cutting down by 1/4 every couple of weeks,
I suppose it took about two months and I’m rid of it now.
I can’t say my sleeping patterns have been better though.
also when you get to the last weeks of the last 1/4, you can then see how you go without it, and if you have itchy skin or bothersome withdrawal then you could take a 1/4 again every couple of days , see if that works.
I have been dealing with MAV for a few years, but am just about to try my second RX (topamax). Neither of the 2 drs I have seen ever mentioned benzos. Can someone tell me what the Benzos are doing for the MAV? Are they helping with any of the dizziness, head pressures or brain fog? Or is it only helping with mood/anxiety?

I take a very low dose benzo to get some sleep a couple nights a week. I find that if I take it during the day, I get dizzy.
John, I find that ativan helps with the dizziness and visual vertigo. And of course it helps with anxiety at the same time. I don’t take it every day, and when I do it’s low dose, about .125 or .25mg.
