Concussion

Hi I have over the past 10 years with the help of Pregabalin been able to return to a normal life. However 4 days I fell off a bike and banged my head. Since then on top of concussion, I have what seem to be MAV symptoms of old : unable to look at screens, disequillibrium etc. I am terrified this is going to send me back to being housebound searching for new medication. I would welcome any advice. Thank you

Fiona,
I’m so sorry to see this. It’s encouraging to see that you were symptom free for 10+ years. But your experience shows that this disorder only takes a little push to come back to the top.

I was symptom free for two years, and suddenly, I find myself back here as well. I can only suggest to you what I am planning to do. I have a neurologist that specializes in migraines, and vestibular disorders. I’m going to talk with her to see if a round of physical therapy might get me back on the right path.

I hope your stay here is short and your return to normal life is soon.

Hi Eric,

thank you for your kind response. Yes our brains seem so sensitive in this regard. Physical therapy sounds like a good move. I was signed off by my consultant who is now exclusively private so have to find another neuro-otologist on the NHS. I think the closest is London . Funny how like yourself , we get a remission then bang, off it goes ,
best of luck and keep me posted ,
Fiona

Fiona, I am sorry for this event with your bike. I agree that we have sensitive brains, but it seems that the medication works for you. Wait a little bit but if the symptoms continue, your neurologist can help you increasing the medication or adding something new. Have faith that the medication works for you. I have read posts from others and they have problems despite the medication. Also remember the plasticity of our brains. Maybe this is just a phase, but the brain will return to normal. Good luck!!!

Hi Maria,

thank you for those supporting words. I certainly hope things get back on track. Who knew a tap to the head could cause such trouble ! Such a shook after being clear for so long
