Hello, in December I started feeling like my head is not going well, not typical dizziness but that feeling that a part of my head is trembling from the inside all the day, and heavy eyes , barely i can focus , neck pain and sometimes headache. I went to my neurologist and he said that’s migraine. I took zinacen and felt well for 2 months until i stopped the med . The dizziness came back on daily basis all the day. I am so depressed. Could it really be migraine? Do u have smilar symptoms?
Sorry to hear Sally.
I have dizziness and headaches/migraine every day. My consultant gave me amitriptyline as he felt it was VM but when this issue first started in Sep 23 I didn’t have any headache/migraines. So I think they are a symptom rather than the cause of the dizziness. I have asked to see a Neurologist, still awaiting my appointment. Will see what they say, depending how long the wait goes I may go private.
Yes, it could (and probably is) migraine. Make another appointment with your neurologist. There are many meds that can be prescribed, but it’s a trial-and-error process to see what works. Some of us take meds for awhile then are able to quit, some take them only as needed, and others (like me) take them every day. There are also other treatments that may be appropriate including vestibular therapy. Make that appointment ASAP.
The jury is still out for me. Some things about my presentation suggested something else but there has been loads of “migraine” flags too, like the way I can get uncomfortable in mixed lighting (artificial and natural light at same time) and for a while got strange forehead discomfort which was like a kind of brain rumble (so weird!). Then there were the scintillating scotomas which are definitely migraine. Chicken and egg. The main game here is symptom control so consider all conservative options!
I believe zinacen is Flunarizine, which is what I take daily for vestibular migraine. It is a medication that’s pretty much only used to treat migraine. The fact that it worked for you is a very strong indicator that your symptoms are due to migraine. I suggest speaking to your neuro about restarting zinacen.
Yeah correct. I restarted zinacen but why the dizziness come back every time I stop the med? I am afraid i have a tumor. The neuro did all the clinical functions test and all are normal. He said i don’t need an MRI. This dizziness can be all the time 24/7?
VM is a chronic condition, it isn’t an acute condition that can be treated just once like taking antibiotics for an infection. Some people take meds for 6 - 12 months then come off them and are fine, they can get on with their lives like normal with no medication. But others, like myself, need to take the meds daily and probably permanently to control symptoms. Yes VM can have symptoms which are 24/7. Mine are. If you had a tumour I’m pretty sure your symptoms wouldn’t have gone away with zinacen. But if it worries you too much then explain to your Doctor why you are worried and hopefully they can put your mind at rest and maybe do the MRI if you ask for one.
My neurologist did a clinical exam for all the brain functions and all went well. But i am so worried manybe he missed something. My dizziness get worse when i use my eyes. I tested my eyes and all what i have found is a crowded optic nerve. I am so tired from this. Can you describe me ur symptoms to see if they sre similar to mine?
It’s natural to worry about doctors missing something but I’m sure your doctor is right since they did all the tests. Dizziness can be really scary. My dizziness was worse when I closed my eyes too, that’s quite common.
My symptoms include dizziness (like being on a boat, or a constant feeling of falling), headaches (like pressure all over my head), fatigue, nausea, changes in emotion (depressed feelings, wanting to cry, anxiety), changes in body temperature (feeling flushed or shivery), palpitations, alot of gas in my stomach.
But you’ve got to remember that not everyone experiences the exact same symptoms with VM. One person can have a very different experience than another. It’s highly individual. So don’t worry if my symptoms are different than yours. That’s quite normal.
