Delicious wintry ginger tea

Although it’s been a strange winter, I’ve been craving all the typical (ie: banned) winter drinks (read: hot toddies, hot apple cider, hot chocolate, hot toddies…). Came up with this ginger drink and thought I’d share with the group - almost all of the components are anti-inflammatory – so it’s good for our crazy, reactive brains!

Note: I have found that warm drinks slightly settle crazy topamax legs – so if you, like me, have the endless tinglies, I recommend drinking this. Or at least rubbing the warm cup against your feet so as to give frozen feet a temporary break.

Needed tools:

  • A pot
  • Tea infuser (I used the one from all modern)

Ingredients:

  • filtered water
  • diced fresh ginger
  • cinnamon, to taste
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp honey

Directions:

  • Fill pot up half way with filtered water

  • Fill tea infuser 3/4 up with diced ginger

  • Add honey, coconut oil, cinnamon, turmeric

  • Add infuser to pot and heat water until it settles to a soft bubble.

  • Let it simmer for a healthy 10 minutes (or longer if you want a stronger tea).

  • Enjoy !

Thank you for this recipe. I am going to give it a try.
I always thought ginger could cause migraines, but I suppose I was wrong. I was told this when I was trying acupuncture.

I have had little luck with topimax, but recently was put on sandomigraine after being on gabipentin, and a sack of various meds. Now I am on a combo of the sando and the topimax (no tingling) but some weight gain with the sando - but I am down from about 23 or 24 to about 5 per month - so well worth it.

Anyhow, I will try your recipe, and it sounds tasty!

Interesting, @AndreaN - I’ve never heard that! Ginger is a great natural remedy for upset stomach, etc. Most of my research has shown that it’s ok for migraineurs (this article even shows it’s recommended). Triggers are specific to each person but will do due diligence and ask my nutritionist when I meet with her on Monday.

One trick I’ve done with the excess infused ginger/turmeric after: I make ginger snaps!
It’s super simple & I can share the recipe if you want it (I’m provoked by almost everything & needed an easy snack to gain some weight), so if this tea doesn’t provoke you I’m more than happy to share the ginger snap recipe - it’s egg-free!

Good luck with the new med combo. so jealous you don’t get crazy topamax legs. they’re the pits! but i’ll take topamax legs over waking up at 5am to a migraine every day (now i get them at 5pm instead - still: an improvement!). very, very encouraged by your decrease. what an improvement!! let me know your thoughts on the tea. I just got fresh turmeric and cannot wait to try out some fun new recipes. watch out julia child…!
