Do you ever lose your memory during a headache?

Sorry if this shows up twice, but I failed to but a subject and therefore can’t find my original post.

This headache is pretty bad, to the point that my daughter-in-law’s name sounds wrong, I don’t remember the name of her dog who recently died, and when someone said my counter tops are granite, it sounded like a word I’d never even heard before. I’m trying to tell myself this will pass, but it’s a big scary.

It certainly is, Ollie. Elswyth. Doesn’t have to be a bad headache per se, because it can come from fuzzyheadedness, perhaps you know what I’m talking about.

Yeah, I know about fuzzyheadedness, David. This was like fuzzyheadedness times infinity! I’ve had some problems with this during other attacks, like when I couldn’t remember what my doctor looked like, and when I couldn’t finish a sentence as I was talking to the pharmacist. This one was a bit different in that words seemed to have no meaning at all. I expect the visual aura, pain, and dizziness, but I hate this feeling that my brain has completely stopped working. That was last night. So today I’m living with the train wreck.

Hi,
I don’t experience this very often, but have had it happen to me a few times, and I sympathise as it’s a bit alarming. I’ve also had a similar thing where I am saying one word in my head and hear a totally unconnected word coming out of my mouth!
Hopefully it will pass quite quickly? How are you feeling today?

Thanks for responding, beechleaf. Glad to know I’m not the only one, although I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone!

I did a little research, and apparently it happens frequently enough that it’s not considered abnormal, although they recommend being checked out by a doctor if it’s unusual for the individual or severe since it might indicate a stroke.

The phase began just as the aura ended and before the headache became severe, and it lasted perhaps 15 minutes or less. The headache faded away slowly over about five hours and I was able to get a good night’s sleep. Today it’s just tender and achy on that side, as usual after one of these, and my balance was off more than usual this morning. Everything improved over the day. Thanks for asking.

I wouldn’t say I lose my memory but when this all started and during my relapse I felt what I was describing as ‘memory blips’ where I would just go blank at remembering simple things. I didn’t have a clue what it was at first but looking back it was probably the effects of migraine x

Jem, I suspect you’re talking about another experience I share. It’s called “TOT,” for Tip-Of (the)-Tongue.

I get something similar when I waken. Sometimes I am completely and utterly confused and I forget who/where I am! I know this it is common for people to wake up wondering where they are but this is exaggerated. Not pleasant!!

Oh, I am also forgetting my words a lot more than I used to. Again, not great!!

No,its never happen with me.
