As the title says, I really love coffee and of course we are all recommended to stay away from it. But is it really possible to recover whilst drinking decaf? My neurologist initially said to avoid it all including chocolate (evil ) but after a while he said decaff is fine so I’m confused. Even decaff is still consuming it and apparently can stop medication from working.
I think it depends on what works for you. I eliminated caffeine for a number of months with no effect. That’s probably the exception, not the rule. You should probably listen to your doctor and trial elimination for an extended period of time (many months)
Coffee is a common trigger which is why it is recommended to avoid it but just because it’s common doesn’t mean it’s a trigger for everyone. The only way to find out is to do an elimination diet for about 3 months and then add it back into your diet to see if you are affected. I personally never drank coffee long before VM started, I don’t like it, so I can’t say how it personally affects me. I do however eat chocolate without being triggered. I have no dietary triggers at all, even though many people benefit from a migraine diet it didn’t help me in the slightest so you can see that not everyone has the same triggers. Here’s hoping you can still enjoy your coffee and chocolate.
I stopped coke & chocolate for a couple of months but didn’t help me. Worth trying anything to see if it works for you.
Decaf was fine for me. Yeah some decaf has a bit of caffeine, but you can get decaf with zero caffeine if you are worried about it - its called Swiss Water Decaf Process and its not hard to find. I think instant decaf coffees tend to use it more often.
