Ear fullness and popping when neck excersised

Hi guys n gals,

Another newbie question if that’s ok…

Since my dizziness started suddenly two months ago, I also immediately felt as though my ears were blocked or full of fluid. I also have this squelchy feeling and sound when I swallow or yawn, as though the ear pops / crackles but nothing is relieved.

The ent syringed my ears so I know it’s not wax, and iv also had hearing test and hearing pressure test and both were normal so he concluded there’s no fluid in the eustachian tubes.

However, firstly, does anyone else get the crackle/squelch on swallowing? I know manynof you have ear fullness… Secondly, is this definitely related to mav? And lastly, I started physio and neck excursises yesterday and I have since noticed that when I do some excersises I get the crackles or squelches like when I swallow! What could this be?? It baffled me before but now I’m really confused! The excersises are 1. Bringing the chin in and down and holding 2. Turning the neck so head looks over each shoulder and 3. Dropping the ear to the shoulder.

Any ideas??

Thank you x

I’ve had periods of time where I have had hearing symptoms like what you describe. When I’ve gone to the doc about it, he could see fluid in the ear. I do have a duel diagnoses of MAV and Meniere’s though. Have your doctors looked into Meniere’s disease by chance?

My ear problems are one of my primary symptoms - mainly my left it.

My ears initally (for the first 3 months) were blocked all the time and the left one pops constantly (sometimes it hurts!). The right ear makes a sound like a bird’s wing flapping.

Yawning, swalling etc does nothing to relieve the ear issues. They just wax and wane on their own.

Now I know why Van Gogh cut his ear off!! I could happily saw my left ear off :x

A bird flapping?! That must be horrendous, how horrible. :frowning:

Nobody has mentioned menieres to me… Not even the ent doc. Do you think I should bring it up with the neuro? How did they come up with your part menieres part mav diagnosis?

I know I have no hearing loss- can you still have menieres without hearing loss?

Thank you x

My Meniere’s dx was completely incorrect and I have had two Neurotologists and a Neurologist confirm this. Even when she told me that’s what I had I challenged her as I didnt believe it nor did I fit all the symptoms (roaring tinnitus, hearing loss, drop attacks, extreme vertigo etc).

Meniere’s you would be able to 100% pinpoint which ear is causing you all the grief (according to my Neurotologist).

Mine feels very much neurological. My brain has basically sh*t iteself.

ENT’s are usually very anxious to handout Meniere’s diagnoses. If you have seen an ENT and he/she didn’t mention anything at all about Meniere’s then there is probably nothing to worry about.
