Hi everyone, I have my first GP visit tomorrow since my formal diagnosis. I’m trying to think of how to explain to her all that has happened since I last saw her a year ago. Goodness, so much has changed! I saw her in July of last year (7 months into MAV). At that time, she was still of the opinion I had BPPV and my formal MAV diagnosis came in December from a specialist.
I’m trying to think ahead and help prepare myself and her (if needed) about MAV. We won’t have enough time together for me to tell her all the ugly details (and recent successes) of the past year. Is there a “cliff notes version” of MAV that is not overly heavy reading, but not the generic “oh it’s a migraine and it makes you dizzy”… a good, concise and definitive overview to hand her? @Onandon03 Helen, seems like you had linked a good one from the NHS along the way, I just cannot find it.
I don’t want to overwhelm her with too much, nor make her feel like I’m “schooling” her since I now know this MAV business is so elusive.
Thanks for your input everyone!

Hi Helen!
She seemed a tiny bit baffled and said “how did he know it was Vestibular Migraine?”… I called out a few of the unique symptoms including photophobia, hyper-caucus and tinnitus. She was very focused on the “headache” portion of my lingering symptoms and called in an RX for Sumatriptan, although I doubt I will ever take it unless I have a very bad relapse.
Good visit overall and she seemed very very happy to see me not crying for once
I cried every time I saw her during that year of looking for help.

Oh well. Always worth a try. Something might have stuck in her mind should she come across another case, Helen

Perhaps we should have given her this on instead. Lists criteria. Pretty good introductory article on VM. I’d forgotten this one until I tripped over it whilst looking for something else. Helen

Oh that’s a good one Helen! I am bookmarking it for my next visit, I think she would appreciate this article. Thank you!
Well if you’re seeing her again, why not. I’d completely forgotten I’d ever found it! It would be good for newcomers too cos it’s concise but covers a lot at brief intro level.

Agreed! Very informative but doesn’t lose the reader with the “science”.
