Does anyone know if Verapamil can cause heart palpitations? I have been getting them about 1 hour after taking it before bed. They are only relieved if I sit up in bed. It is a bad fluttering like feeling. I take the Verapamil before bedtime. Also, when I get up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water or go to the bathroom, I am exceptionally dizzy and off balance. I wake up fine in the morning. Is that the Verapamil doing that since its only a few hours after taking it?

Nance I do not know about that but I have had the heart , what I call flutters , so I am going to the cardiologist today and let him know about them. Plus my off balance is bad if I have to get up in the middle of the night. Not sure what is causing that , also like it first thing in the morning but I have low blood pressure so maybe it is lower when I sleep so if I or when I get up it makes me light headed.

I wonder if your blood pressure is dropping lower at night Nance if you have the ability to take it at night when you get up that might help you figure it out.
Hmm, do you take extended/sustained release pills or regular, instant-release ones? And what strength?
Verapamil has a short half-life, so you don’t take ER/SR/XR/… ones, they will have too big of an effect (causing palpitations and low blood pressure) when taken, and little to none at all during the daytime, which is bad.
