Hi everyone,
I’m posting because I’ve made significant progress with vestibular migraine, but one major limitation remains: I can’t drive. I live in a remote area and this has kept me housebound for over a year. It’s deeply affecting my independence and quality of life.
Here’s where I’m at:
• On flunarizine, I’m about 75% recovered. My daily dizziness and motion intolerance have improved a lot.
• BUT: every time I try to drive, I experience severe rotational vertigo for 3 days afterwards, completely bedridden.
• I’m already on nortriptyline, which helped my mood early on but did nothing for my vestibular symptoms.
• I’ve also tried cinnarizine and meclizine—no real improvement.
• I’ve done vestibular rehabilitation and attempted VOR exercises, but even 1 minute makes me so ill I’m out for days.
• I don’t suffer from panic attacks or heart issues — my main trigger is visual-motion sensitivity (like driving, screens, following movement).
I’m desperate to regain the ability to drive.
Has any medication helped YOU specifically with driving again?
I’m open to anything — beta blockers, anticonvulsants, pizotifen, lamotrigine, topiramate — even off-label options. Please, if anyone has had success, I’d be incredibly grateful for your advice.
Thank you so much
