Hi All,
I was at a forum the other day and this came up in one of the presentations – the “leading cause of disease burden” in 15 year olds here in Australia. I couldn’t believe how migraine ranked so highly … up there in the top 10 with road accidents, depression etc in this age group. It went something like this in what they termed “disability adjusted life years (DALY)”:
MALES
- Anxiety/depression 17.4%
- Road accidents 10.1%
- Schizophrenia 9.6%
- Suicide 7.1%
- Drugs (eg, heroin) 5.5%
- Alcohol 4.7%
- MIGRAINE 3.5%
- Cannabis 3.4%
- Personality disorder 3.1%
- Bipolar disorder 2.6%
FEMALES
- Anxiety/depression 31.8%
- Asthma 7.1%
- MIGRAINE 6.6%
- Urinary 6%
- Schizophrenia 4%
- Road accidents 3.5%
- Personality disorder 2.8%
- Bulimia
- Bipolar disorder
- Anorexia
