Perhaps some of you folks saw the story from the UK about the woman who has suffered from dizziness, diagnosed as mal de debarquement syndrome (MDDS), ever since taking a cruise a few years back. Here’s one of the accounts of the story: travel.aol.co.uk/2013/03/17/woma … ay-cruise/. What is very interesting is that she finds relief when in motion, such as driving or swimming, but feels much worse when in a supermarket or looking at a computer screen. Hmmm. Sound familiar?
I myself suffered from two weeks of awful dizziness after taking a rather rocky overnight ferry from Stockholm to Tallinn. That bout of dizziness wore off, but I subsequently got slammed by conventional MAV. Perhaps this is all connected?
I read the story on the BBC website and thought she coud well have MAV because she has a history of migraines. I went to the MDDS website and looked at the symptoms they list and they sound so much like MAV e.g light and sound sensitivity etc. I wonder if anyone diagnosed with MDDS has tried migraine preventatives as a possible treatment. The other lady mentioned in the BBC article happens to be a friend of a friend.
I went to the top neuro at UCLA studying MDDS and was diagnosed with Mav and spontaneous Mdds. She said that mdds is a variant of migraine. There are no medications to help mdds except the benzos to help put a band-aid on it like mav. for me, there is a total difference between a vertigo mav attack and the 24/7 rockiness. i feel better moving in a car too.
I was just dx with lyme disease which I think is the real root to both of these problems for myself.
I too was diagnosed with both Ilovesalem. How is the lyme treatment going? How were you diagnosed? Please keep us posted! Thanks.
