Meal Ideas - quick food

Hi All,

anyone got ideas for quick, easy to cook meals that fit within the Migraine Diet?

I am thinking of things like eggs on toast haha… im useless at cooking

Do you have the ‘Heal your Headache’ book? It’s worth buying. There are simple meal ideas in there and recipes. Things like tuna salad sandwich, grapes, potato chips (unflavoured), apple pie, scrambled egg, baked potato, spaghetti bolognese, omlette.

Hi Jem,

I do but i was just wanting to see if anyone else had any other ideas. Are we allowed Sausages?

Again I think it depends whose diet you follow. No mention of sausages on Dr S’s list but Buchholz says to avoid processed meats and that includes sausages. It all depends on how strict you want to be x

There are sausages and sausages.

I’ve come to no harm from eating hot dogs whose ingredients list no nitrites, nitrates, erythrocite, smoke, &c.

Ain’t nothing wrong with quick cookers such as farina or rolled oats, with fresh cheese added for extra zest and nutrition.

Hi Richy,
one thing we have is Tacos. Simply take some nice lean mince, add some Taco mix (steer clear of ones with MSG, like el Paso, and go for one like Discovery Mexican (Ingredients: Ground Chilli, Salt, Cumin, Garlic Powder, Paprika, Oregano Flakes, Ground Black Pepper ocado.com/webshop/product/Di … x/13658011) or similar). Takes about 10mins or so. While the mince is doing, chop some tomatoes and lettuce and microwave the Taco shells - job done. Tasty meal, MAV-certified!

Another one is prawns and some stir-fried veg (red/orange pepper, mushroom, courgette, etc) with pasta. Doesn’t take long - even less time if you buy quick cook pasta! Stir fry the veg in chilli and/or garlic-infused olive oil for some great flavours. Can do pieces of chicken breast also, but prawns are quicker, especially ones that are already cooked!

Boil any pasta or rice and then add butter and veggies and spices of choice; I prefer Spinach. Add a tiny bit of cheese if you can, even cream cheese or rondele cheese can give it a bit of umph! This is one of my favorite quickies.

There are loads of quickies depending what diet you are following, i eat things like:

carbonara with ricotta and chicken
omlettes with peppers and shallots
homemade burgers with fries that are just potato and oil
plain crisps
rolls with egg or tuna or salad in (not fresh rolls though)
cornish pasties - some seem ok
rice ‘risotto’ which is simply rice with fried shallots, peppers, mushrooms (if you are ok with them) chicken/fish, & sweetcorn plus seasoned to taste.
toasted sandwiches with cream cheese/tomatoes (if you are ok with them)
poached eggs/fried eggs/eggie bread

that sort of thing

I find it really interesting to read this thread as all of us say we’re on ‘a MAV diet’ but interpret it in so many different ways… It’s confusing to know what is right and what is wrong. For instance, I would never eat anything with any kind of cheese, butter or eggs in.

I don’t have meal ideas for quick food really, but I have asked Mr MM aka My Chef to type up some of the meals he makes for me according to Dr S’s rules… I will prod him daily until he produces it

Haha I second what you said MissMoss, it’s interesting to read everyone’s interpretations. Just to be safe, I stear clear of all packaged products, cheese, and butter, (plus the Bucholz guidelines) and limit myself to an egg or two a week.

As for quick meals:
-1/2 cup cooked red or white quinoa with a 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds, served with steamed veggies on top (I like parsnips and asparagus!)
-dinner is usually a cooked piece of chicken/ground turkey/fish/beef with a serving of roasted veggies
-snack: rice cakes with sunflower seed butter and chia seeds

I love to cook extra when I do cook, then I freeze individual servings in plastic baggies (e.g. ground turkey, brown rice, and roasted veggies). (Eating migraine friendly means not leaving leftovers in the fridge for more than 24 hours). When I want to eat quick, I put one frozen baggie in a bowl of hot water for 20-30 minutes, then microwave the contents and I’m good to go!

Dr s told me a bit of butter here and there is fine.

He might vary it patient-to-patient, but he told me very specifically, no eggs! :frowning:
Tony.

wahhh :frowning: i’m gonna continue living in lala land pretending bucholz’s 3 eggs a week are ok, mainly because they’re so darn delicious

Anyone got any desert ideas?

I follow David Buchholz’s diet from ‘Heal your headache’, according to that butter and eggs are ok. I only use pure butter though as most ‘spreads’ contain flavourings etc. I guess we are all following different guidelines but it’s really about finding your individual triggers whatever diet/s you follow to begin with. My biggest baddies seem to be caffeine/chocolate and cheese.

This is a great post! I’ve seriously lost so much weight because I have no idea what to eat … So I don’t lol. Re desserts … What about ice cream with non citrus fruit in it? Eg peaches?
