With the heart issues happening on multiple meds, it’s kind of tough as many of them have the potential (albeit small) for at least palpitations. Side effects are going to be different in everyone, but some options might be:
-Depakote
-An SNRI like Effexor or Cymbalta
-Periactin
-Botox, if you qualify
-Neurontin or Lyrica
Supplements that could be tried are CoQ10, PA-free Butterbur, Feverfew, and Magnesium
What ECG changes did you have? Long QT or something else?
Thank you
Yeah i experienced a racing heart with all the other meds i didnt experience ectopic beats with but i found that a lot easier to handle :). Im seeing a cardiologist today, my ecg changes were st junction depression and abnormal heart rhythm.
Epilim is depakote i think? Its sodium valproate. Is that a drug i have to have in morning and night or can i opt to have it all at night?
I have a very severe form of vestibular migraine so adding supplements to the preventative if definately something i have be looking into doing. At the moment im treating an iron and bit d deficiency. I cant go without preventative meds even for a day because i really need to be on the higher dose to control the severe pain, so it makes changing over difficult.
I have terrible withdrawels my withdraw from topamax i shouldn’t have been in hospital it was extreme, since i have had to come off a lot of meds i try and go up extremely slowly so then i don’t get extremely sick if i have to come off.
Oh whoops, you’re right about Epilim - both are valproates. I don’t know why, but my brain registered it as Vimpat (a newer AED) - it has been one of those days. :?
I have gotten either racing heart or pounding heartbeat on a few - one I couldn’t tolerate AT ALL because of it (the ami), but usually as long as my ECG is clean I put up with it. Since yours has a history of abnormalities I am sure you would need to be more careful, and your doc should hopefully be able to help with which options are safe for you to try. There are a number of options left to explore, so hopefully you can find something your body tolerates! Topamax has been the most effective med for me to date, but my body rejected it too with metabolic acidosis and some other serious crap. Bummer.
Oh i had the same thing with topamax, it was extreme horrible when that acidosis started took a week with no meds to recover and leave my bed.
My cardiologist said my heart naturally adds extra beats and so any med can make it
Worse for me. I just cant seem to get myself to go up on epilim, its like my gut instinct is screaming at me which it did with topa when i ignored it ans got extremely
Sick. where as the other meds it was obvious i couldnt tolerate. It has been 6 weeks on 200mg of epilim and i couldnt see myself tolerating a higher dose since he wants it as a broken dose and it puts me straight to sleep so i couldnt take it through the day, so my spec has said to
Dump it and will contact me with what i do next.
This is so tough finding a med to work, its like working out a puzzle but not being given
Any of the sides or corners to help get you started lol
I am so not up on meds and what catagory they fall under, but I have had a bit of success on b2 supplements. My GP suggested it. I take 4 tablets a day (400mg) and it takes 3 months before you see any results. I didn’t see much after the 3 months but decided to keep with it since all other meds didn’t work for me and this is a natural supplement. After a couple more months it has seemed to dull my migraines enough to function with some help from over the counter migraine relief. So, not cured, but some better. Anyway, don’t know if that helps or not. Regardless, I hope you find something to help!
