I know different meds are given out depending on your symptoms. E.g Anxiety and depression

Do we have a way of telling what are the most successfully drugs from scientific research?

Typically a specialist will start a migraineur on a medication that treats their comorbidities. So for example, if you have depression, than it makes sense to begin with an SSRI or TCA.

Everyone is different so I guess the meds that work for some don’t work for others. Scientifically I don’t know if any studies have been done to compare the efficacy of MAV meds. I note that all specialists seem to have their own preferences and that seems to depends on their latest success with patients or the latest medical thinking. I wish we knew more about why the doctors picked a certain med for us sometimes.
