Migraine Diet Question

For those of you who have been put on a migraine diet by your doctor, did they give a timeframe to try this for before adding in a preventative? It makes sense if you have a food trigger to eliminate that first and then see if you need meds rather than doing the diet and meds starting at the same time. I guess want I want to know is how quickly can you improve once you’ve eliminated a food trigger.

I expect some Dr S patients may know this.

Any comments most welcome.

I was started on the diet and high nortriptaline simultaneously by Dr. John Carey at Johns Hopkins. Worked.

Thanks for the reply David, I suspected that was the case. For anyone who has identified a food trigger how long did it take to see an improvement once the food was eliminated?

I read an article where Bulchholz said it can take up to 2 months but this seems an awfully long time.

I done the restricted diet and I felt worse for the first 2-3 weeks but the after about 20 days I really felt a big difference

30 days is normally sufficient time to see if it makes a difference

Hi Upgrader,

That is so good to hear, many thanks for your reply. I wonder if offending foods cause inflammation and symptoms don’t improve as soon as you stop the food because the reaction has to subside. I would love to know the science behind it.

It might also have to do with the intestinal flora and it takes time for the flora to change.

Now that does make a lot of sense.
