As I am spending more time on this site, I find it more helpful than most doctors I have spoken with. Anyway, my next question is about Nortriptyline. I have been on this medication for about 10 years and have been doing pretty well. About 3 months ago I started getting really bad low blood sugar symptoms, shakiness, sweating, irritability and after a trip to the Emergency Room I was told my blood sugar levels were normal, but I probably had Idiopathic Postprandial Syndrome. As anyone experienced this while on this medication. Cheers Bob
I find your question very interesting. I experienced low blood sugar before my diagnosis of Vertiginous Migraine. I did tests, and it was not true hypoglycemia. I just felt weak and irritable. I improved when I started using Nortriptyline (10 mg), and now I rarely have that sensation of low blood sugar. I think there is a connection between insulin and VM, but I havenβt asked my doctor. Could you ask your doctor if the side effect can show up after 10 years? Have you done the A1C blood test to check your sugar levels?
Thanks for your comments. My A1C is 5.2 and my fasting glucose was 100. I got to see a registered dietician last week and I told her I was on 20 MG of Nortriptyline and she asked how long I had been at that dose. I told her over 10 years so she ruled Nortriptyline as the culprit. I did more research on my symptoms and believe I am insulin resistant. I have a plan in place which will include tossing 30 pounds and have altered my diet to a whole food plant based diet. We will see what happens. Cheers. Bob.
