Operation/anesthesia and MAV/vertigo

I have to get my thyroid removed in a couple of weeks.
Has anyone had an operation with general anesthesia since they started getting vertigo? Has the operation made it worse?

Hi there, I had an op with general anesthesia and no, it didn’t make it worse. Good luck with yours. Brenda

Sovertigo,
I had general anesthesia last month for wisdom teeth surgery. It didnt bother me. The painkillers and antibiotics afterwards were what put me out! It was horrible. Meds are a big trigger for me though. So I m sure thats why I felt awful.

Good luck

thank you so much for taking the time to respond

Hi
I had a small procedure that was outpatient, and I felt TERRIFIC the rest of the day and into the next. I wondered what drugs they used, and then saw it was a long list. I can only guess that the meds to put you out, also put out the migraine for a bit. I was ready to get put out every morning to have a great rest of the day! lol

I would recommend you schedule surgery first thing in the morning if you can’t eat after a certain time the night before. I had to wait until late afternoon for a colonoscopy once, and the anesthesia, combined with additional hours of an empty stomach and anxiety, triggered an attack. Took me two weeks to fully recuperate.

I am posting a follow-up since my operation was lst Friday.

Well… not only did i not have vertigo after this operation but i didn’t have nausea or headaches after it either! I woke up quite in good shape and was eating and walking in the evening. I am really impressed, as this operation was to remove my thyroid, and they keep your head stretched at a maximum with your chin raised to the sky… the worst position for my vertigo usually.

Just wanted to share that in case someone was afraid of getting anestesia or neck surgery.

Now… i am just keeping my fingers crossed that it will not confirm that it is a cancer… i am very worried of the next steps if it is…

Nice to hear back from you. Glad you had no problems. Sounds as if the actual op and recovery were a great deal easier than expected, which must have been a real relief to you. Hope the good news continues when you get the results. Please let us know…

Sending you good wishes

Brenda

Thank you Brenda, you’re really king.

Went under for an operation on my hand. No problem.

Glad you have had the operation so now I can say … I woke with vertigo, the room was spinning. I dont really know why, probably the anaesthetic. Also, another time, I had IV antibiotics and was horribly dizzy all the time, I couldnt take a shower I was so dizzy. Another time, they gave me some drug beginning with C for the dizziness and it gave me vertigo (or else the dizziness would have gone into vertigo anyway). None of this is at all helpful, but I had bad experiences. I opt for local anaesthetic whenever I can, and obviously, avoid going into hospital for anything unless I really have to.
