As of late I have started getting a popping sound in my left ear which is something that is new. It has not been painful but sometimes it happens off and on all day and then some days I do not get it all. Is this a symptom?
Does anyone else get it and then at times that ears gets really hot to the touch and red on the outside.
Any thoughts, the ENT I went to see checked my hearing but that was last year I wonder if I should go back and see him with this new symptom as it was not doing that when I first went to see him.
Yes I get this every day, it has been a lot worse lately, along with the vertigo attacks being worse. It seems to fluctuate throughout the day. One thing I have noticed is that I seem to start the day with a flushed face and a full up ear (which occasionally pops and clears for about a minute when I can hear twice as loud). I take my painkillers and the headache goes down and so does the full ear feeling.
Also, when I lay down to sleep one ear sometimes just pops continuously until I put some vick up that side of my nose. It must be the eustachian tubes (I was told once that my right eardrum is pulled inwards, so conclude that the balance isnt right). Also, when I last had my ears looked at, the nurse said she could see fluid in the left ear.
Be interested to see if anyone else can identify with this.
Christine
It always pops when I get ready to go to sleep , when I was at my GCP a few weeks ago she said she could see a bit of fluid in the left ear and told me to take decongestant, which has not helped.
That is why I wonder about going back to the ENT to see what he thinks it is hard to get into see him but maybe worth a try.
He is one of the only doctors I have seen during all this that I really feel comfortable with and trust.
I was trying to decide to go back to the ENT with this and didnt know where to go first. I am due to see the neurologist on Thursday and will ask him about the ears, although I suspect he wont know much. I can see me eventually ending back at the ENT. Are you in the UK?
Christine
I don’t get any popping, but my right ear (I think it’s always the right one) sometimes, always around 5-7 pm, gets VERY hot and also very red. This always coinsides with my cheeks also becoming very red and hot, and I sometimes feel my heart rate in the cheek(s).
(In another note, feeling my heart rate is various parts of the body happens randomly. Sometimes around my arm, or thigh, or wrist, or… You get the idea. This only happens when I have more of a migraine attack than the baseline.)

ALthough I had to go back the neor to try and get medication for this condtion. He was very kind and spent over two hours with both myself and my husband explaining all of this to us.

I get both of these odd symptoms on and off. They are annoying, but not painful. I believe they are MAV related. Weird stuff…
I may be completely off here but the ear popping could be related to TMJ. 20 years ago I started getting lots of popping and clicking and was always trying to “equalise” my ears. Since I got the splint I’ve had no more popping.
I’m seeing a new dentist today so will be asking him his thoughts on TMJ and migraine.
BTW, I’ve also noticed the ‘flush’ thing, usually around my neck. Weird.
Ever since I started having TMJ and MAV problems, my ears have started popping or crackling. I can make it happen very easily or it some times does it on its own. It is not painful, although initially quite annoying. I got used to it (easy to do when you have other more problematic symtoms!) Oh and btw, I have a special splint for the TMJ and it has done nothing to help in this area (but has helped my jaw).
Yes, my right ear has some type of popping or more like splatting going on. It has been happening for years and I cannot get a doctor to believe me. They keep say, “You picked up some type of clicking noise.” It is not clicking.
