Potential Remedy for Stubborn Vestibular Illnesses

I have been battling dizziness and vertigo for over 16 years now. I have had periods of waxing and waning in my symptoms and my ability to function, with things worsening at the onset of perimenopause. I have a diary of my journey through this illness in the diaries section of this forum.

I have seen countless doctors, been prescribed an untold number of prescription medications that never worked and, in some cases, worsened my condition. I cannot tell you how many diagnoses I have been given – everything from migraine-associated vertigo, vestibular migraines, Meniere’s disease, PPPD, and BPPV, just to name a few. None of the testing conducted on me has ever revealed a physical or medical cause for my dizziness and this usually ends up with a referral to a psychologist.

I have tried everything over the years and finally, I think I have found my “cure,” and I wanted to share it with y’all. I realize that this will not help everyone, but, if it helps only one person, then I consider that a win.

Two things:

First, I finally found a psychotherapist who is worth her weight in gold to start dealing with my trauma. I am doing EMDR and other trauma-resolving techniques. I cannot explain it, all I can say is that as I began to deal with my trauma, I noticed a change (for the better) in my symptoms.

Second, flipping through YouTube one night the algorithm displayed several videos from an audiologist named Dr. Yonit Arthur. I watched a few of her videos (with great cynicism I might add), but decided to look into her free, online course, and watch more of her videos.

These two things have made such a tremendous difference in my stubborn, despairing symptoms! I am not completely healed, but I am not where I was before. I am going through the online course by Dr. Arthur, purchased the optional workbook she has (available on Amazon), and am doing the difficult work with my psychotherapist, who is aware of the program I am going through with Dr. Arthur. The amount of overlap between the two therapies is astounding.

I just wanted to share this information with y’all in the hopes that if there is someone like me who has tried everything and none of it worked, try this. I cannot control the external factors (e.g., weather) or things like perimenopause, but I can control my mental health, and take care of my physical health to increase my window of tolerance for the non-controllable factors and give my nervous system a break!
