The forum is very helpful, lots of good info I didn’t find elsewhere. My question is the walking. A few months before I was diagnosed with PPPD in Dec ‘23, I was stumbling a bit on my daily walks. At first I attributed it to a detached retina from a cycling accident in ‘14, but my staggered gait got progressively worse. Caused a fall in June ‘24 that put me in the hospital for tests. Fast forwarding, walking now is still very staggering, necessitating a cane. Do all sorts of leg strengthening exercises, but no improvement. Still dealing with PPPD and dizziness, so that doesn’t help. Any thoughts?
I struggle with balance – I used a walking stick all the time for several years. Now that I’m more stable I only use it at night or when I’m walking on uneven ground. Preventative meds and vestibular therapy helped quite a bit. But one of the first signs that a VM episode is about to hit is when I begin to stumble, tip over or have trouble walking in a straight line. Even on good days my balance isn’t great but I keep walking no matter what. If you haven’t tried vestibular therapy, I recommend you give it a shot.
Had several sessions back in early ‘24. Going in for more next month. I do the ones I got from YouTube but balance actually got worse. Have also been doing leg strengthening exercises. Thanks so much for your response. It comes at a good time. Things to discuss with my Neurologist!

….re-reading your comment. I have to take my hat off to you. You’ve been dealing with this for years. I’m going whacky after just a couple. Not how I thought I’d spend my Golden Years! But folks like you give me hope. Thanks again!

When I started having vestibular migraine issues, my balance was greatly affected. I couldn’t sit, stand or walk and used a wheelchair for 12 years. But it was never a leg strength issue. Eventually surgery, meds, balance and vestibular physical therapy helped. I advanced to a walker and, in late 2023, a cane. I have improved immensely in the past few years and my migraines (although not gone) are under much better control. I hope you also improve.
You have had quite a journey. Glad you’re finally on an upward path. It’s amazing how much migraines can affect all aspects of your being. I’ve been doing vestibular drills, but probably not to the level I need. Am scheduled to work with a vestibular trainer in early July. Hoping for the best.
