First of all in the opinions of those of you here, which benzo helped or helps knock out your anxiety without knocking you out? The reason I ask is because my doctor wants to change my Valium and wants me to take Klondaphan. Can someone tell me the difference…in laymens terms?
I take .25 mg Valium now and he prescribed .05 mg Klondaphan at bedtime.
The other quesiton I have is about ADs. Does it make any sense to find out what may have worked for another family member who used an AD as the genes may be the same so that it would be more appropriate to work for you? In other words, both my mother and brother take ADs so would it help to know what works for them if I was going to try one to treat my condition.
One of the reasons I ask this is because neither my brother or mother could tolerate Paxil or Zoloft.
My brother takes Cymbalta now and has taken Prozac, Effexor and Celexia. I was thinking if neither of them can tolerate Paxil or Zoloft maybe neither could I. just a thought what do you think.
I have no personal experience with Klonopin but it seems to be very well tolerated and appears to come with a very low risk of developing dependence. It’s probably safer than valium (which I use occasionally).

That’s a really good question. I think it does. Your genetics is very similar to a sibling and if they are OK on a particular med, I would think you should do well on it too. There’s probably no guarantee that this will necessarily pan out but it seems like it should work to me. I’d be very interested to hear how you find Cymbalta given Colleen’s great result.
My mums been on valium for 60 years (having come over from Austria at the end of the war). I cant take them. Have tried a few times.
I think the Klonopin sounds good. Have a friend who uses them (now her Father used them for years too) she says she couldnt live without them. Marvellous for getting off to sleep (just a quarter tablet) they also help the vertigo which is what her dad was prescribed them for.
Timeless, I would be interested in knowing why your brother finds Cymbalta better than the Effexor (still not sure which one to take first).
Thanks
Christine
My mom can take lexapro without any side effects (and she has migraines) but I cannot tolerate it. My sister takes Zoloft at a hight dose. I couldn’t tolerate zoloft, either.

My brother is on AD for anxiety and depression not migraines …he did take the Effexor for almost three years but after a while it stopped working…so that is when he changed. Of course the dose he takes is much higher than what they use to treat migraines. But he said Paxill did not work and Zoloft made him feel really off…
Let me know if Klonopin works for you. I’ve been taking valuim (2mg) a day and it has helped the rocking feeling a little bit and also I don’t feel nearly as dizzy sitting on the floor. I’ve been able to do a little bit more activites since taking it. If only it would take the awful sensations I experience when walking. It’s tortuous! I was wondering about Klonopin because I still don’t know if I have MAV of MDDS or both. My VRT therapist basically told me there’s nothing more he can do for me and he thinks my inner ears are fine since I don’t seem to have a problem with my balance at all (but I feel like I do). I’ve been doing formal VRT for three weeks. He thinks my problem is central which went against what my neurotologist said. I’m going to start migraine meds on Monday, probably ask to start Verapamil first and maybe ask about Klonopin as well. THe reason I think I might have MDDS is because I feel fine in the car while driving and being a passenger, but I do get motion sick when stopping at red lights and such and also around corners. I hope with whatever I have that a migraine med can give me a normal or close to normal life back. My name is Tammy too.

I am going to have my husband pick up the new medication today. I have heard and read that Klonopin is not as sedating as Valium and as I am beginning to feel a bit tired as of late I am thinking that the build up in my body may be causing that take half of 5mg tablet and have been since January …I am hoping this may help the aniety a bit more but I do know the Valium has knocked of som of the rocking and I do not want that to come back…
I am currently on Klonopin (have been since October 2008), at .5 mg at day: .25 in the morning and .25 in the evening. I have had no problems with it other than initially feeling a little woozy. It is well tolerated at this dosage and thought to not be a problem with withdrawal at this dosage. I think it is less sedating/intense than Valium. I also take a tricyclic antidepressant at night called Tofranil 10 mg. That tends to make me a bit more tired, thus why I take it at night.
