Heres a weird question. I quit drinking alcohol exactly 1 week ago ( i was only drinking 1-2 drinks a night, but it has been EVERY night for the pas 2 1/2 years. I have not missed 1 night) Ever since I quit I am UNBELIEVABLY DIZZY I feel extreme headaches, my heart races and my visual motion intolerance is back in full swing!!! Its so weird!! I haven’t felt this bad since this whole thing started!!! Does anybody have any insight?? Thanks soooo much!
Oh I also cant sleep and I feel nauseous!!
i wouldnt think that you are showing signs of withdrawl, but you could be considering you have been drinking everyday. I gave up all drinking last spring for lent ( only drank on wknds…socially…maybe 3 or 4 beers total) This is when I had all of my headaches and the dizziness started. Call it a coincidence…but who knows. I would think that this is more a symptom of getting rid of alcohol than MAV. See if you don’t feel better after a week…
I think so too. Doesn’t alcohol increase serotonin? Since I am already taking an ssri maybe that is what is causing all of the dizziness??

Why did you quit drinking so abruptly? Any changes to the brain can be much worse in a migraineur. Alcohol affects GABA… Many people with low GABA in their bodies self medicate with alcohol. Do you take any benzos? They also target GABA so You might want to use a little till you balance out. If it were me, I’d have a drink and see if it changes how you feel. Test it out… Or you can always wait till things even back out.

I may be completely off base here but, just speculating, maybe your problems ‘coming off’ alcohol are like those anyone (especially migraineurs) can have coming off any drug. The migraine brain doesn’t like sudden change - maybe you need to wean yourself off alcohol the same way you/we’d wean off any other drug? Just a thought…

P.S Disclaimer: I’m having a gin and tonic as I type.
Or perhaps it’s a bit like going cold turkey with coffee, or any other migraine trigger, i.e. it gets worse before it gets better…
I’m no doctor (and I don’t play one on tv), but I too would say that stopping drinking cold after years could easily cause this.
Its so weird!!! Today I am actually back to feeling that horrible swaying motion!! AHGGGG!!! I haven’t felt like this for months. I upped my zoloft and still no help. Ahh what to do???
so strange! the thought of having a drink makes me sick! i was just in vegas and didn’t even have a sip. wish i could but it increases my dizzies and that is what i don’t want!
I gave up drink for the first 4 months of this mav world but god, having a drink makes me feel on top of the world! Granted I get tired quicker and pissed easier, but I put that down to the ami. My hangovers have always been bad but they got worse. But it’s worth it. A couple of drinks is enough to take the symptoms away a lot.
Prob not healthy but f-it! Xxxx
One of the drugs I take (to prevent vertigo) is commonly used for alcohol withdrawal - Librium (chlordiazepoxide) - long acting benzo. I took 5 mg/night for two years. Now I take 10 mg/night. My body’s used to it, so I don’t even get drowsy, if you can believe it.
I cant believe that taking away a drink or two a night could upset my brain sooo much! I had a glass of wine yesterday and am feeling a little less dizzy today… It just confirms to me that my dizziness is from MIGRAINE!! There is no other explanation of why my symptoms got so much worse from just taking away something! I wonder if this is a clue to what alcohol is doing to my threshold or that it is the reason for my chronic dizziness??? Who knows but for now I really cant stop it! Thanks for everyones response!!!
In a few days I will have had MAV for 10 months. My bf and I went to Snowdonia in Wales this past weekend. Guess what, I had a SHANDY!!! RA!!! First alcoholic drink in 10 MONTHS!!
As soon as I drank it tho, I went on a para thinking it was doing something evil to me and I was going to get worse!! I’m so scared about trying alcohol with this sh*t!

The word is that in India, farmers have been withholding their crops from the biofuels industry, because the booze industry pays better for ethanol makings.
Hmmm . . .this applies how?
