Sex may help Migraines article

Hey all my fellow MAV family

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted here as I’m slowly trying to get my life back to normal as I’m getting better every day with a high dose of Effexor. I’m really wanting to write a success story but I’m fearful I’ll be jinxed and immediately relapse. Haha. That’s the thing about MAV! It instills fear. Crazy. But I’m aware of the fear and slowly trying to deal with it.

I will write more about my success story this weekend but for this post, I will stick to sex. Haha. Here is an interesting article I thought I’d share.

Hope everyone is hanging in there and enduring all the aspects of this horrible illness.

Sincerely,

Mary (mavprincess)

That’s interesting considering it is known that sex can also bring on headaches in some people!

How’s it going on the Effexor? Do you feel like you have had to keep upping your dose to get the same benefit from it/did the drug stop working? Have you thought more about adding depakote or something else to your mix? How long have you been on effexor for?

Don’t be afraid of jinxing your self by writing a success story- though I know that is hard I (and everyone else on here) likely shares the same fear!!!

Hi Sarah

It is going great on the Effexor. It has been my miracle drug. Yes, with every increase, I have improved. I can’t remember exactly when I started it. But I believe it was in June of 2012. In January, I hit the max dose of 225 and have noticed even more improvement. I am probably at 90% or more. I’m trying to get psyched up to return to work. Very fearful that the exposure to everything in that environment will send me back into HELL. But I need to face that fear very soon.

Back in January, my dr prescribed Depakote to get over the last bit of this. Once again, I’m fearful of adding anything that may jeopardize how great I’m feeling. I’m a very strong person but still not sure about venturing into another drug. We will see.

I will say that two more components to my lifestyle have really helped in getting me better are 1) co q 10 and returning to my vigorous workouts. I have really pushed through the uncomfortableness of working out and it’s really paying off.

How are you? What are you taking? Where are you at? This is such a complex illness.

That’s great that you are ready to start working again- I understand the fear of it making things worse- could you start with half days maybe and see how it goes? I hear you about adding another drug- it sounds like you are doing really great already!!!

I tried Effexor but it made my balance so bad I was walking to into walls…I only lasted 10 days on it. I am on Nortrip and Lyrica but am having extreme problems with my balance (since last summer). I am going to start antibiotics for possible lyme and see how that goes- if it doesnt change anything will start another mav med. I have now been trying meds for 2 years and really am no closer to being able to function, it is really depressing and my balance is sooooo much worse than when i started.

Are you at the max dose of effexor for any condition, or just for migraine? Do you have any more room to go up?

What do you think the coq-10 helps with specifically? Or the working out?
