I came across this Dr’s thoughts on sleep and migraine and Vitamin d. Quite interesting.
Basically it’s saying that you have bad sleep, you have headache which is migraine.
You are sleeping bad because you have low vit D. You fix the low Vit DM, you fix the sleep, you fix the head.
MM - probably more than half the population of UK have low Vit D levels! Even in sunny Oz loads of us have low Vit D - slapping on loads of sunscreen, covering up, etc so we don’t end up with a nasty skin cancer, depriving our skin of all that luverly sunshine! Quite easy to get the test done here (probably have to pay tho). My GP ‘trialled’ a yearly injection on me last year so will see if it works. Otherwise - monthly oil-based syringe dose is effective. Didn’t fix my migraine tho! If only!!

Thanks for sharing the info…I wish it was that simple…
Even in sunny FL, I have low Vitamin D; my GP has me tak one 1.25 mg capsule a week (not easy to get even from foods). I’ve been a bad sleeper for a long time, like my mother and my grandmother before her, so I take half a Zolpeden (generic Ambien) each night. Not sure of the connection, not a cure…but the migraines have gotten better-I wish I knew exactly why (so I could stop spending so much on Cymbalta, doctors, organic foods, physical therapy, vitamins, etc.); it all adds up. Not sure why my dreams are more vivid now than ever. Just trying it all just to feel healthier again.
I take on goals one at a time, usually during summers off, one year it was to change my eating habits, one year to add exercise, next it’ll be figure out how to sleep naturally (I’ve tried before, but not succeeded).
I’m in Oz and my Vit D was down to 14, think it’s supposed to be over min of 200. I have to take Supps and spend 30mins in the sun each day w/out sunscreen. It affects me worse in winter and I get more depressed - God help me if I lived in England or somewhere like that (sorry no offense meant). It can be part of Seasonal Adjustment Disorder.
Lisa, I have been taking Zolpidem (Stilnox) for more years than I can remember. I have just worked out that it is affecting my dizziness and balance/gait. I ran out of script recently and had a really bad time with migraines and dizzy/balance symptoms (guessing it was rebound from withdrawals) and now I’m feeling much better and my gait has improved. The dreaming may be more vivid bc it’s a hypnotic and acts like a Benzo, even though it’s a Non-Benzo. My memory impairment could also be due to the Stilnox.
Be careful with it bc I became very reliant on it for sleep both psychologically and physically.
My Physio was the one to tell me to get off it as all of those types of meds affect the sleep pattern, he says it’s CRITICAL to get the natural sleep cycles happening to have proper restorative sleep. Try googling the “5 stages of sleep” and have a read of it on a reputable site.
I’m on 150mg Nort and 75 Lyrica twice daily which normally would be enough to put an elephant to sleep but I still needed Stilnox. Had a few bad nights and used a Xanax instead but I’m getting to the point where I’m starting to feel tired all by myself. So should be in a nice rhythm in another week or two hopefully.
I do want to get off it, eve though I only use half a pill or 6.25(I cut it). I think it’ll be my summer goal, when I don’t have to go to work at a certain time. The vivid dreams started after the MAV (years after taking the sleeping pill). Do the other sleep aids you mentioned create less dependency? How are they better?
I know I have to deal with this at some point and have started reading about it. Any great book that helped you? Again, thank you:)!
